I'm Back!

Wow! It's been a long time. I've been without a computer for 2 1/2 months...And it's been crazy without the computer. But I'm back now! And I've got sooo much catching up to do!

So it's already the middle of December! There are only 11 more days until Christmas - and actually, I might as well say 10 days, because today is almost nearing its end. Only 10 days left, and I've done absolutely no shopping yet. Usually I do my shopping little by little, and a lot of it online too. So this year is definitely different!!! Wish me luck with that. I have a feeling I'll be needing it.

Still Without a Computer =(

Well, I'm still without a computer, but I'm once again borrowing someone's laptop, just so that I can check my accounts (and write a quick blog update!).

Sooooo...This is what I've been up to lately:

For Halloween, I made chocolate pumpkin jack-o-lanterns. How do you think they turned out? I made them for my daughter to sell as a fundraiser, but then she ended up with a bad case of the flu (right after re
ceiving the flu shot) and was out of school the entire week! So, we ended up giving them as Halloween treats to the kids' school teachers and friends. I wanted to show you all how they turned out, though. =)

For Halloween night, we had Transformers in the house! My oldest boy was Megatron, the evil bot, while the youngest was Bumblebee, the good guy! We carved little pumpkins and set them out on our walk way. And we decorated the porch with lots of spiderwebs, spiders, and we even threw in some ghosts floating around. We also had orange lights around our front door. We did a tiny bit of trick-or-treating --- only around our little block. Then we came home to pass out candy to the trick-or-treaters that came to our door. They had fun, and it was a fun night. They got enough candy for the whole family to share! I thought I had some pics to post for this, but they're not coming up (boo!). =/

Besides our computer crashing, we're having car troubles too. =( When it rains, it poors, so they say...It started with an oil leak, and then a nail in the back tire that's not fixable (we just need a new tire), and then there's the fact that we need to replace the CV boots on both sides (which means brand new axles - maybe a $400 job at the very least).

And then to top it off, our oven is broken!!! This just happened last week as I was going to put lasagna in the oven to bake, and I realized it wasn't cooking...It wasn't even hot! It's going to be at least a couple of hundred to fix. Aaahhhh!!! What a headache. So with all these things going on, I don't even have the money to fix the computer at this time. I could have it fixed for free, but I have to wait for someone else's schedule to free up, which could take some time (it's already been over a month!). So in the meantime, I'm just stuck being computer-less. I use my daughter's iPod Touch to check email and take quick glances at our Etsy shop. But without much online activity, our shop has gone pretty much unnoticed, and I can't really promote it that much if it's hard for us to check its status anyway...So you see my dilemma...I'll just call it another semi-vacation from Etsy, I guess. But, the holidays are coming - so it's really a bummer! =(

Anyway, that's my venting for the day. I noticed today, though, that I've got some new followers! Wow! WELCOME TO YOU ALL, and I'm so glad to have you aboard (even if I can't blog so much right now). We're almost to 300!!! I hope I will have my computer fixed before December (keep your fingers crossed for me), so I can get back to Etsy, blogging, and all the other fun stuff that I'm missing right now! Plus, I can't even begin to explain the inconvenience of having to take my daughter to the public library just so that she can type and print some homework!!! That's another headache...I never thought not having a home computer would be so annoying.

Well, until next time (and I don't know when that will be...)!

Happy November, everyone!

Computer Trouble

My computer crashed the night of my last post!!! I've been without a computer this entire month, and it's been no fun at all. I'm supposed to be having someone come and fix it, but I don't know how much longer I can wait. And although having it fixed for free sounds great, I can't wait forever!!! So...My apologies to all my readers and followers. I hope to have the computer fixed soon, though, and then I'll be back to blogging!

=) Thanks for your understanding.

  • If you can, please follow the blogs in the three slots before you (e.g., if you're number 20, follow numbers 19, 18, and 17). This is not mandatory, but it will help ensure that everyone who signs up gets a few new followers!

Tuesday Tag-Along Blog Hopper of the Week:
Note: To be eligible to be Blog Hopper of the Week, you MUST place the Tuesday Tag-Along button somewhere on the main page of your blog or website (Inside a blog post does NOT count; it must be on the actual page, e.g. in the sidebar. And since I'll be checking for it manually, I must be able to actually find it). If the randomly-drawn winner does not meet this condition, a new winner will be randomly selected. If you do not want to place the TTA button on your site, you are still more than welcome to join in the blog hop, you will just not be eligible to be the Blog Hopper of the Week.

Each week, one blog will be chosen randomly from all the links, and that lucky blog will be placed in the desirable second slot for the following week's MckLinky!

This week's lucky blog hopper is #106 - Knit One Max Too! Congratulations!

Made My Day

After a pretty bad day, I signed into our Etsy account and noticed that we got a convo from the lovely customer that had just purchased the crystal star necklace shown below. She was letting me know that she received it. She also left us some really great feedback. It really made my day today and put a much needed smile on my face, and I wanted to share it with you.
Customer says:

I have to admit that when I bought this it was an impulse buy, and I kinda regretted it 15 min later. However when it came today and I opened it and saw how the light came through the star and the color of the mood beads all regrets disappeared and I fell in love with it. Shipping was super fast as well. Much thanks to justByou!

I'm so glad that she received it so quickly! I sent it out on Tuesday, so it only took two days! This is great. I know sometimes that shopping online isn't quite as satisfactory as buying in person, because you don't get your purchase right away. There's a waiting period. On the other hand, receiving your package in the mail is pretty fun! I know I love to get mail (and by mail, I mean the stuff that's NOT the bills!). I'm really happy that the necklace arrived quickly and that she was happy with her purchase. The crystal star mood necklace and the crystal moon mood necklace are really popular. I haven't gotten to make another star one yet, but the crystal moon one is still available in our shop! Check it out below. =)

Newest Items Relisted

After some photo-editing, I listed some items in our shop that had been previously sold! Yay! Now I have to get to work on the NEW items that don't even have pictures yet...But here are a few of the items just relisted:

Dragonfly Car Charm
Dragonfly Cell Phone Charm
My Three Hearts Car Charm

It seemed to be the summer of dragonflies. We sold lots of the dragonfly items (only one car charm through Etsy, but lots in person). So, I figured we should put the dragonflies back up in our Etsy shop as soon as possible. =) Hope you'll stop by and take a peek at the new pictures!

And...This just sold!

I'll be making a new one to list in our shop again too. Hopefully I can get those pictures done by the end of the day. I'm really trying to get at least one brand new item up this week...So stay tuned!

What have you been up to lately?

I know, I know. I've been MIA lately! I haven't been blogging, and I've barely been near the computer at all! Call it my unofficial vacation. I needed a break, I guess. The summer months have really worn me out. And the back-to-school stuff has been a whirlwind to keep up with too.

But besides all of that, I've been up to some other things lately that have kept me super-busy. With back-to-school events come those many, many school kick-off fundraisers. All parents/guardians know about those, right? Those catalogs full of overpriced items and gift-wrapping paper that we don't really want to buy, much less sell to others...What a nightmare! Well, we made it through my son's elementary fundraiser - barely.

My daughter's is still in the process. Our family's budget is really tight right now, like so many other families out there. She's in the 8th grade, so there are even more costs that will arise this year for her (besides graduation expenses and all of that, we'll have to worry about the 8th grade special field trips too!) At the end of the school year, the honor roll takes a trip to Disneyland. And then there's the Washington, D.C./New York opportunity as well. We have the chance to raise the money for these trips with some fundraisers that the school offers, along with any fundraising efforts we come up with on our own. My daughter will be working hard with many fundraisers offered by the school, but we're also going to be putting lots of time into our own efforts, much like we did for her summer school classes. While brainstorming, my daughter and I asked my mom for some help.

So here's what we've been up to lately...
My mom came up to Northern California from Southern California to visit for about a week. She taught me how to make some chocolates!!! It's so much fun. I'm in no way talented like she is, but I tried. These were the first chocolates I made. My daughter and I are going to put together boxes of chocolates to sell to friends, family and neighbors during the holiday season.
I learned how to make chocolate creams...Flavors were strawberry (most favorite), apricot, chocolate fudge, coconut-vanilla, and triple berry. They came out all right, but I still need lots of practice. My mom is such the chocolatier - so fast and efficient. I took my time --- but you can't be too slow when working with chocolate! I found that out too, and I should've taken a picture for you to see that (pretty funny stuff). =)
I have such an appreciation for chocolate-makers. It's not easy! It's a true art form. Really.

I also learned how to make chocolate suckers. Here is one that I think is cute. I had to stick to really simple ones, because I'm NO expert! But I think it came out OK.
So my daughter and I will be busy practicing the art of chocolate-making during the next few weeks in hopes that we perfect it just enough to do a small fundraiser for the holidays. I'll be letting you know how it all goes.
We won't be selling on Etsy, because we're not expert enough for that. BUT, if you need a chocolate fix, I've got just the Etsy shop for you to visit! My friend Penny is back in action on Etsy after her summer vacation. She just reopened her shop and her awesome gourmet chocolates have all been listed! Check it out at this link: http://www.etsy.com/shop/PernillasSS
And - she's just added some cute new Halloween chocolates that you've GOT to see!!!

Other than that, we took another trip to the beach! Yes, with so much going on, we needed a family retreat. We hopped in the car for Labor Day weekend and headed out to see some waves. Here are
a few pictures of serenity by the sea...

We're working on pictures for our Etsy shop. Doing some time-consuming photo-editing, taking new pictures, working on some new items. So be sure to stay tuned for more info on that coming up!

Thank you all for following my blog and remaining loyal!
I hope you're all doing well. I appreciate all my followers and readers. What have you been up to lately? You can leave me some comments and share what you've been doing for the past few weeks that I haven't been blogging! Have you been stressed out like me? Super-busy with back-to-school stuff too? Learning new things? Let me know! Or, leave a comment just to say hi. =)

Photos: Before and After

OK. I spent quite a bit of time doing some photo editing today. Yep, I tried my patience...And I survived! I just updated the photos in our Etsy shop for our two newest items. What do you think?

The above picture is the "before" picture. Then I went online to picnik (it's free!) and did some editing to brighten it up. I've had an account with picnik since February, but I just had no patience to use it! My computer is very slow...So it took a lot of time to do something just really small, but I hung in there and toughed it out. I poked around the editing section and tried different things. Here is the "after" picture that I just posted to our shop.

What a difference some photo-editing software does, right??? Yep, even though it was time-consuming, it was worth it. But I do wish for the day when I can get a new computer and Photoshop!!! That would make life just a teeny bit easier, I think.

So I edited photos for our two newest listings in the shop. You can check them out by clicking on the links below:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/54694819/swarovski-clear-crystal-heart-suncatcher
and
http://www.etsy.com/listing/54661356/lucky-cell-phone-charm-chinese-character

With the success of today's photo-editing, I'm going to attempt to edit some of the other pictures we've got that are already in our shop. Wish me luck. It might take me awhile, but I'm working on it. =)

Seeing it Here First

You're seeing it here first - on the blog! We tried to get some good shots, but I don't think they're bright enough. They'll have to do for now, because it's taken us this long just to get the shots! We're going to work on trying to brighten them up a bit later. Take a look!
This is a stunning Swarovski 40 mm clear crystal heart.
It's a perfect SunCatcher for any window in any home.

Here are three of our cell phone charms or zipper pulls, in Chinese characters - "Good Luck" (front and back of charm is shown in picture). Each one comes on a 2" lariat in one of three colors: green, black, yellow. Along with the good luck charm, there is also a small beaded chain, including a tiny Swarovski crystal bead.

These items will be in our shop sometime later this evening - or tomorrow. Please stop by our Etsy shop and take a peek! More items coming soon as well. So stay tuned...

Working on New Pics

We're working on some new pictures, so that I can list some new items in our Etsy shop. Kids are in school again and getting back into the groove of things. Here are a couple of things that will soon be in our shop, but they'll have newer pictures and be in different colors than shown. These are items that were previously in the shop and were purchased. =)

A starfish SunCatcher to make beautiful rainbows in the sunlight.

A cell phone charm or zipper pull - "Good Luck" in Chinese characters.

And we've got one or two brand new items to list as well! Hopefully we'll be done with the pictures tomorrow, and I can list them then. =) We still don't mess around with photo-editing, so we've really got to just try to get the best light we can and deal. It just takes too long for me to do the editing. It's probably our slow computer. For right now, it's back to homework with my 3rd grader - and I've gotta find something to make for dinner!

School is Starting

School is starting, and my kids aren't ready to go back yet. They're not anxious or nervous at all about starting a new year. Their attitude is more of a laid back, go-with-the-flow type. They don't want to go back to school just yet, but they know that they have to do it. =)

With my daughter attending summer classes for the majority of the summer break, I don't even really feel like we - as a family - got much of a summer at all. But that's OK, because her summer classes and her experience was well worth it. She'll be getting her grades from the summer courses in a couple of weeks, and we're pretty sure she did really well.

When I was in school, I was never as laid back about the first day as my kids are! I remember going through my backpack like 5 times, just to be sure I had everything and wasn't forgetting something I might need. Or going school shopping for supplies about a month before school even started! I was quite the perfectionist back then. I've eased up quite a bit, but I'm still super-organized and like to make sure that I have everything I need - before I actually need it.

Anyway, this year, we've saved school supply shopping for the very last minute. Off to the store we go to get the notebooks, pencils, pens, erasers. We've never done this last minute before, so I imagine the stores are going to be PACKED with people! This is something I'm not looking forward to...Wish us luck!

Sold 4 a Cause!

I'm so excited and happy to say that we've sold two items in our shop from our justB 4 a cause section! Because of this, I am able to donate $16 to the American Cancer Society. Check out the great items that were recently purchased.

This is a beautiful AB crystal car charm for the rear view mirror.

A fun zipper pull or cell phone charm.

To check out the rest of our selection in the justB 4 a cause section of our shop, please click the link below:

I've really been procrastinating on getting things done when it comes to online stuff and our Etsy shop. I need to get many items in the shop! I just haven't taken any pictures yet. I'll be trying to work on that. This is the kids' last week of their summer vacation, as school is starting next week for them. So if we don't get to it this week, I'll do it next week for sure! You know what this means --- Be ready for some new additions in our shop very soon!!!

A Day at the Beach

What a great way to relax and forget about all the worries in life...A Day at the Beach!!! We took a drive to go and visit the ocean, and spent a great day in the sand, listening to the ocean waves, relaxing, making sand castles, and playing in the water. It was just what the family needed! Here are some pictures for you to enjoy.

Last Week for Summer Classes!

This is the last week for my daughter's summer classes. Hopefully, this means that I can actually get that "break from summer break" that is so needed, like I mentioned from last week's blog post. It means that I won't have to be driving her back and forth to class every day. So that will take a chunk of time out of the daily summer routine and maybe let me put that chunk somewhere else where it's needed. I hate to think that I might have to use it to be cleaning house, but...Yeah, I don't wanna think about it just yet! For right now, I just want to think that maybe without the summer classes, I'll have more time in my day to get other things done.

Here's a SunCatcher that I hope to be adding to our Etsy shop sometime soon. What do you think? You like it?

Summer Break

I need a break from summer break! It seems that this summer has been just amazingly full of way too many things to do. I've tried and failed at attempting to do my daily blogging. For that I really do apologize, but I thank each and every one of you readers/followers that have stayed with me, even though my blogging has been inconsistent for the past month or so. Even if I can't blog every day, I try for at least two or three times a week. And, I also apologize for not posting my weekly shops lately. I'm going to try to get back to that next week.

Trying Times and Nursery Rhymes

What do you do when you're just having one of those bad days?

One thing that makes me feel a little better - reading nursery rhymes to my youngest! There's just something about nursery rhymes that's light-hearted. And fun poetry books too. I bought some Shel Silverstein poetry books for my middle child, and we read a few pages the other day. Fun stuff. And it put me in a better mood right away! =)

If you'd like to check out the official site for kids from Shel Silverstein, click the link below. You can see a list of all his books too. My sons and I just read from the book Falling Up.

http://www.shelsilverstein.com

Anyway, the point of this post is...If you're having some trying times, try nursery rhymes to cheer up!!!

Christmas in July Sale

So I've been lagging a little when it comes to my blogging and our Etsy shop this past week. A lot has been going on here, so it's been hard to juggle everything. Summer time is fun, but it's also a lot of work! Our daughter is busy with her summer school classes, and we just found out that she is one of 25 recipients of a nationwide scholarship program! She had applied last year, and we had completely forgotten about it, so it was such a great surprise to get the phone call. With school also out for our middle child, that leaves two VERY energetic boys at home with me all day. So computer time for me seems to get pushed to the end of the to-do list...

I've been trying to work on some new items for our Etsy shop. I'm only half-way done, though. Then I still have to take the pictures and actually list them in the shop. Hopefully I'll get some done this weekend. We're part of a Christmas in July sale! So you can go to our shop and look at the newest section "Christmas in July" and take a peek at a couple of deals there, including FREE SHIPPING. =)

But for now, here's one item that's on sale -----

Sunny Summer Winner!!!

I do apologize for being a day late, but I got sick yesterday, and it wasn't fun. Today is a new day, though...

The kids and I had so much fun going through the entries, reading all the answers to the questions. There were very few entries, so the chances of being winner was extremely good for all of you that entered. I had the kids make all the slips of paper with the names on them. We put them into my son's baseball cap, and the youngest drew the name....

AND THE WINNER IS....JENNY BOLECH!!!

I'll be sending an email to Jenny in a minute, and she'll have 48 hours to reply. Oh, and by the way, this is what she won:
A big CONGRATS goes to Jenny!!!
Thank you all so much for participating in the Sunny Summer Giveaway! I hope you had fun. I know that I did, and I can't wait to do it again. =)
I have fun with the questions, and it's great to get to know my readers. Thanks again!

Final Sunny Summer Question

What is one of your favorite summer memories?

My answer:
One of my fave memories of summer is when I was kid, I remember counting down the days until Memorial Day at the end of May, because usually we would go camping and that would be the official start to my sunny summer days! We camped at so many places, but it was always fun to go camping at the beach. =)

How about you? What's a favorite summer memory for you?

Well, I'll be away from the computer for the 4th of July weekend, so I'll be posting multiple questions today. Here's the first one:
Have you ever been sunburnt? If so, what was the worst sunburn you've had?

My answer:
I've actually NEVER been really sunburnt
. The closest that I came to being burnt was during a trip to Hawaii where my skin turned red and started to peel a little bit on my nose and shoulders. It didn't hurt at all, and within two days, it was nothing but a brown tan. So I guess I'm lucky not to have ever been burnt! I'm not really fair-skinned, but I do have a lighter complexion now that I don't go out in the sun near as much as when I was younger. And --- always use sunscreen, no matter what!

Question #7

So, with the huge Twilight Saga: Eclipse movie premiere, guess where we were yesterday? Right. The theater. My daughter couldn't miss it, so we all headed to the movies...It was a really good movie. I thought it was better than New Moon. If you like the books, or you liked the first two movies, go see Eclipse! It was fun, and we bought a couple t-shirts with this picture on the front.

The boys liked all the action. But it's a romance movie too...
And so today's question is this: What type of movie do you prefer - action or romance?

My answer would have to be...It depends on what I'm in the mood for! I like all kinds of movies. Sometimes I'm in the mood for action/adventure, other times comedy or a family flick. It just depends. But I think if I had to choose between just action or romance, I'd have to pick action first. Some romances can be too drawn out and the storylines take a bit longer. But like I said, I like ALL kinds of movies! =)

How about you? If you had to choose between action and romance, which one would you choose?

Question #6

Since the Fourth of July is quickly coming up, I'll ask a question based on that holiday. If you don't celebrate, then you can answer based on any summer special tradition that you and your family have instead.

What do you do to celebrate the 4th of July?

My family and I usually do different things, depending on what we feel like that year.

One year, we participated in a neighborhood block party. We even had the streets closed to the public! It was cool. There were bounce houses for the kids, a HUGE BBQ and potluck, tons of different desserts...And all the neighbors got together and met each other and had a good time.

Every year, we do buy some of the fireworks from the fireworks booths around town and set them off. It's fun to watch all the colors and different kinds of fireworks. The kids love it. Once or twice we've been to see the big fireworks shows, but most of the time we like to do our own thing. =)

Sunny Summer Question #2 and #3

My sincere apologies for not keeping up with my blog this past week. I haven't been feeling well, and I've had some major headaches. I haven't even had the computer on at all. I really do apologize for not posting, and I hope you understand. Today, I'll post two questions, so that we can attempt to catch up.

Question #2

What is your favorite summer flower?

Well, one of my favorite wildflowers is the ever-pretty sunflower! I found a picture from nps.gov (National Park Service). It's such a pretty photo, taken by Jim Pisarowics. The nps.gov website has loads of great information on the national parks and all the great things you can find within the parks! Check it out when you have time. =)

Question #3

Today the temperature here in Northern CA is supposed to get to 101 degrees! What's one thing you like to do when it gets sooo hot???

My answer: Water play with the kids, of course!!! We don't have a swimming pool, so we make the best of water play. We get little wading pools, fill them with water and fun water toys. The kids like water guns, those Nerf water balls, little water squirters, toy boats...There are lots of things we can find around the house too. Water play is fun, and it cools you off in the summer heat. =)

So, now it's your turn! Leave a comment and let me know what your favorite summer flower is. Leave a separate comment letting me know what you do to keep cool during a hot summer day. =)

Question #1

What is your favorite summer vacation spot?

My answer: I know I've mentioned it before, but I would have to say the beach - any beach. =) The beach is a fun place to take the family for a day of fun
and summer sun (just don't forget the sunscreen)! I'm hoping to take a trip to the beach pretty soon, now that the kids are out of school. Sand castles, ocean waves, finding seashells...Yep, we'll be there soon!!!

Feature for Friday 6/18/10

The feature shop for this Friday carries beautiful crocheted handbags, purses, and wallets. Owner is the ever-so-talented Robin, and she says, "All of my bags are fully lined, and include interior pockets, so they look great, are great to use, and hold up well. And shipping to the U.S. and Canada is FREE too!" With FREE SHIPPING and great product, how can you go wrong??? Keep reading, you'll see some awesome finds from Robin's shop on Etsy, Robin's Flight.

First up, I wanted to show you a couple of great patriotic items (since the Fourth of July is quickly approaching). T
his cute little wallet is crocheted with red, white and blue cotton yarns! I've nicknamed it the Stars & Stripes wallet, because it also has stars and stripes (so cute). You've GOT TO CLICK HERE to see more views. It's the perfect little wallet for when you're on-the-go, or to slip in your favorite purse, and it allows you to show a little patriotism. =) Not to mention, it's priced just right at only $12!

This second find is also a little patriotic as well. The title of this one really IS Stars and Stripes...Big Tote. It's actually the perfect tote to pair with the wallet shown above!
Here's part of Robin's description:

"This roomy tote is hand-crocheted in bright red, white, and navy blue cotton yarns with stripe and star motifs. Fully lined in red/white stripe and navy with white star fabrics. Large interior has one side zipper pocket and one side open pocket."

Next up is one of my faves! It's a cute little Black and White Organizer Wallet Wristlet. It may be small, but it
can carry it all!!! I've got two pictures to share with you, because I wanted you to really see how much fits in this little thing! From the first picture, it doesn't seem like it could carry all that much, but look...The second picture speaks for itself. It's a perfect wristlet with room for everything you need. I like this little black and white one, myself, but Robin's got one in chocolate and cream too! Check out the line of organizer wallet wristlets, CLICK HERE.

And lastly, I wanted to share one of Robin's pretty purses. The one I picked is a Navy Blue and White Belted Pleat Bottom Bag. It's a great every day purse, with just the right femininity as the "
small blue floral and blue/white stripe fabric linings brighten it up." It features a simple, yet classic look, and "2 side pockets, one large interior pocket with zipper closure at top and small interior zipper pocket. Fabric-reinforced 30" handle." Like what you see?
