Last Chance

I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things now. Thank you all for your patience.

Today is the LAST CHANCE to enter my first GIVEAWAY. At midnight tonight - that's the deadline. I hope you all had a chance to enter, and leave those comments. All entries on or before midnight tonight will be considered for the drawing. Tomorrow morning, I will gather all names of those who entered and left comments on all blog posts. And, because the number of my followers increased to over 50 (*smiles*), the giveaway item is going to be winner's choice of anything in our shop, with free shipping. If the chosen item is from the "justB 4 a cause" section, then the mentioned donation amount will still go to the designated non-profit specified in the listing.

GOOD LUCK! We'll have a winner tomorrow by noon, pacific time. =) I will post the winner's name. If I don't have the winner's contact info, then the winner can leave a comment on the blog post so I can get shipping info and choice of giveaway item.

I wanted to give you all a quick update.

My family and I were unable to attend the funeral. I got online to get the train tickets, and the price was DOUBLE what I was expecting (probably just because it was last minute - but how can you really plan for this type of occasion?). I even checked to see what the price would be if just two of us went on the trip - still expensive. All weekend I was trying to make arrangements for us to go. But with money already tight, we just couldn't do it (train, air, or car). I had to call my dad's wife and let her know. But...we will be planning a trip for this summer, if it's possible. Tickets for a planned trip (buying the tickets at least a week in advance) are half the price, plus I can use my AAA discount. I'd really prefer us to all go as a family anyway...And so we'll go and visit his grave site since we can't go to the service.

It's not fair that it has to cost so much for last minute travel. I really wanted to be there for a final farewell, to say a few words at the service, and for my husband to be a pall bearer. I know that my dad would understand why we were unable to go, though. And I know that he would not have wanted us to get into debt just to attend, which is what I was planning to do. But when I called his wife, she told me not to. She said he would not want that. And so we stayed at home. As I write this, the service is about to begin...

Even though we could not attend the funeral, I have been taking this time off. So again, I thank all of you. For being followers, for reading, for your kind thoughts and comments, for understanding. Thank you.

Giveaway Extended

Due to recent events, I am extending the giveaway. My feature shop for this week will be delayed until next week as well. I'm trying to make it to my dad's out-of-state funeral, so everything is just chaotic right now. Thank you all so much for your kind words and thoughts. I truly appreciate it.

The giveaway is extended until midnight (pacific time) Wednesday, March 31st. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I hope that you understand.

I also took a quick peek at our shop this morning, and I saw that the Mood Bead Cuff Bracelet sold. I have relisted it, because I know it's one of the favorites for many of you. When I get back next week, I will also try my very best to list more items for you to choose from for the giveaway.

Thank you again!

A Life Once Lived

Today I write about something important, and I hope you all read it.

This morning I received a phone call - one that I knew would be coming soon. It was from my dad's wife, and she was calling to tell me that he has passed away. It was only almost two weeks ago that I found out he was terminally ill with cancer, a cancer of the blood - similar to leukemia. He had tried chemotherapy and radiation treatments, but his body was not strong enough to take those harsh treatments. There was nothing that any doctors could do.

When I had received the news, I had mixed emotions. My dad and I have not been close for a very long time. But he is my dad - was my dad, will always be my dad. No matter what our relationship, I know that he always loved me. Even when I was mean (and I could be really mean) to him, even when I was angry, even when I gave him the silent treatment...Through it all, I know he loved me, and I know he cared. I know he was proud of me. And I know he wished that we were closer.

So as I sit here and contemplate how I could have been a better daughter, I want to ask all of you to do this: Tell your loved ones that you love them every day. Tell them that they are important to you. Do it for me. Do it for those you love. Do it for yourself.

I was fortunate enough to be able to tell him a last goodbye, and I was able to tell him that I loved him no matter what we've been through all these years. There are so many people out there who have loved ones that are taken abruptly, without notice or warning...It's because life can be so short that we really do have to tell our loved ones that we love them as much as we can. If your loved ones do not live nearby, write them letters, send them those emails, and make those phone calls...Just keep in touch. I should have kept in touch more than I did, and I realize that now. While it's too late for me now, it's not too late to keep in touch with others, and it's not too late for all of you to do the same.

A life once lived now is gone, but will always be remembered.

Thank you for reading this.
P.S. My next listings will be in the "just B 4 a cause" section, and 100% of the proceeds will be going to Cancer research.

Giveaway Question #5

It's almost Friday - the deadline for the giveaway! I see so many new followers! =) Welcome to all, and I hope you're having fun with my giveaway. I've posted many Giveaway questions in an effort to help you be able to participate and enter the giveaway. I'm having so much fun!

Here's today's question:

What's your favorite thing to do on a sunny day?

One of my favorite things to do is go outside with the kids and blow bubbles!!! I just bought a bunch of big bubble containers and a whole package of bubble wands. =) The package of wands includes over 25 different types of fun-shaped wands. It will be SO much fun. We've even made our own homemade bubble mixture (sometimes they don't turn out so great, but other times it's perfect) and homemade wands. But when spring hits full swing, I want to be prepared and have lots of backup. We often go outside in the front yard and blow bubbles together and bring out the sidewalk chalk. It's a great, inexpensive way to enjoy the sun (with sunscreen, of course!).

How about you? What's one of YOUR favorite things to do on a sunny day?

Giveaway Question #4

Today's Question:

What's one of YOUR favorite Etsy shops and why?

My answer: Well, we've already seen TWO of my favorite Etsy shops on my blog. My first two featured shops - Dreamy Vintage and Pernilla's Something Swedish. =)
Dreamy Vintage is a favorite because it was one of the first shops that popped out at me, screaming for me to buy something! And I love Pernilla's Something Swedish because it's got two of girl's best friends - chocolate and jewelry (and because it reminds me of my mom's old store)! For another favorite --- you'll have to wait for this Friday's Feature Shop...

How about you? What's one of your favorite Etsy shops - and why?

Friday's Fabulous Feature Shop

Prepare to be tempted by sweet chocolate and romantic jewelry - two of a girl's best friends!!! This shop opened up at almost the same time as our shop, but this Swedish girl living in the U.S. rocks the best of both worlds with sweets AND jewelry. I happened to stumble upon this shop one day while visiting the Etsy forums. It reminded me something of my mom's store when I was younger...

Pernilla's Something Swedish offers really incredible items, from truly romantic jewelry pieces, to Pennie's Guardian Angels, to flavored chocolate brittle and Easter basket surprises!!! It's an awesome shop that will make your mouth water with all the yummy chocolates and your heart melt with the romantic jewelry.

Let's just dive in with an awesome item that has an Easter the
me! This is an Easter Gift Bucket just waiting for someone to grab...The Chocolate Easter Bunny alone is so perfect for the holiday!!! It's a great deal, all that yummy chocolate for only $22.50. Want to check it out for yourself? Click HERE.

How about a romantic piece of jewelry for that someone special??? This Amethyst Cluster Necklace is one of my favorites. Simply beautiful, and the color is so pretty and feminine! Check it out, and click HERE.

Mouth still watering from the basket shown above? I'm not done yet! Look to the left and you'll see a sweet treat, Easter Eggs. Not just any Easter Eggs. From the words of the seller:
"You WILL fall in Love with these wonderful Easter Eggs! They are made with 5 different kinds of chocolate & real cream! The center is rich, creamy lemon crisp Truffle & the shell around is White chocolate vanilla.
Now when Easter is around the corner, these are the perfect treat for you & your family! It also makes the very perfect gift for someone special!
Each Easter Egg measures about 3cm long. This order is for 6 Easter Egg Pralines. They are induvidually wrapped & comes in a beautiful gift Box with ribbons."

Click HERE to see more gourmet candies.

Another favorite that's waiting for me to buy it is the Strawberry Vanilla Brittle, but I think it may be sold out at the moment. In its place, I'll sh
ow you the Chocolate Banana Brittle - which is just as tempting as the strawberry vanilla version already listed in my favorites. Yes, banana and chocolate --- they go together soooo well. You get a half pound of this fabulous concoction for only $6.99. Like what you see? Click HERE for more photos and the item description.

Lastly, I'm going to show you all an item from Pennie's Guardian Angels collection. As Pennie says,
"Pennie's Guardian Angels Collection includes Earrings, Necklaces, Bracelets & are all made with Pennie's Special, Blessed, Sweet, Cute, Beautiful, Lucky Angels! You can buy them se
parate or as a set. They are all made with different pearls or stones. We all need a Guardian Angel in our lives!"

It's a beautiful set - necklace and earrings to match - for just $24.50. With Mother's Day just around the corner, this is an item to keep in mind for sure!

Some fun facts about Pennie:
- She's living in Iowa.
- She likes to use chocolate, vanilla, sugar and caramel for her sweet treats.

Giveaway Q#3

I've got 55 followers!!! I'm so excited! I'm glad you all are joining me on this great adventure, as I blog about my family's journey into the small business cyberworld, and other fun stuff along the way. Like this giveaway - I'm having so much fun!!! Together, we made it to my goal of 50 followers, which means that the giveaway item will be ANYTHING from our shop! And, we'll be adding some new items so that the winner will have a nice selection to choose from by the time the winning name is drawn on March, 27th.
I hope you all are having fun with the giveaway questions so far (I know I am). =)

Today's question is pretty simple:

What is your favorite day of the week and why?

My favorite day of the week is Friday - always has been. Friday is the end of the week, so the kids usually don't have homework to do and no school the next day. We can spend the day doing something fun together, or plan out what we're going to do for the weekend. We can relax, watch a movie and have some popcorn - most of the time not worrying about having to get up early the next morning!

How about you? What's your favorite day of the week?

Happy St. Patrick's Day - Giveaway Q#2

It's St. Patrick's Day, so I thought a nice, bright green font would be fun! Today's Giveaway Question will also be related to the theme.

What's your favorite food that's green?

My answer? Well, I'm a really picky eater (I know, I'm bad), but one of my favorite green candies is the Green Apple Jolly Ranchers! Yum. I've liked them for as long as I can remember. I know candy doesn't really count as a food item, so - to be fair - I'll also note that I like green apples too (not candy, but the real fruit!).

How about you??? What's your favorite food that's green in color?

Giveaway Question #1

In honor of my first giveaway, I'll be asking some questions for my followers. This will give you a chance to enter the giveaway, as well as share a little tidbit about yourself! I'll answer my questions too, giving you little bits and pieces of info about me and who I am.

Today's question:

What is one thing that's important in your life?

A simple answer is this: Family.
Family is one of the most important things in life. Growing up, there was a time when I felt like family was more of a burden than a blessing. Time makes you all the wiser...Because now that I have a family of my own, I know that family is a blessing indeed. My family is a big part of who I am - who I was, who I've grown into, and who I will be in the future. It sounds kind of sappy, I know. But it's true.

So how about all of you? Leave a comment. Share what's on your mind! What's one thing that is important in your life?

Wow. Lots of our items our selling --- just not off of our website...But hey, we'll take sales in whatever way, shape or form they come in with no complaints!

First Friday Feature Shop!

OK. I'm posting a little early - but only because I'm excited to be doing a feature!
For the first feature shop on my blog, I thought it was perfect to choose the shop that WOWed me when I first became an Etsy member...

DREAMY VINTAGE is a shop that offers jewelry that's both dreamy and vintage or inspired by vintage. In her own words, Didem sells:

"Handmade genuine vintage and vintage inspired jewelry from different eras. Dainty feminine pieces handcrafted with a romantic whimsical touch."
This was the first shop that made me think, "Wow, I love Etsy!" It has such a dreamy, romantic aura that just beams off the computer screen! It's FULL of beautiful pieces with vintage beauty and simplicity. Everything in the shop is priced just right and affordable for gift-giving.

Dreamy Vintage was featured as one of Etsy's Fresh Emerging Shops, and a part of Etsy's GIFT GUIDEs --- That deserves a round of applause!

I made my first Etsy purchase from this shop, and Didem was great every step of the way. At first I wasn't sure that I wanted to become a seller, but having such a great experience with Dreamy Vintage made me want to go ahead and jump into the Etsy world to actually start my home-based small business.

This first picture is of a necklace called the Oracle - A vintage crystal jewel necklace. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!
Only $25, can you believe it?!?! It's one of my favorites. :)
To check out this dazzling piece, click HERE.

Here are some fun facts about Dreamy Vintage owner, Didem:
***Some favorite materials:

- velvet
- silk
- gold
- brass
- lace
- natural stones

***She's from Northern California (the bay area)!!!
***Dreamy Vintage is on facebook! Here's the link:

Le Grand Bleu Earrings.
A pair of gorgeous glam earrings. Vintage sapphire jewels with a hint of topaz...Sparkle like no other (and I love things that sparkle, you can tell that from my shop).
Priced at only $16...What a steal! They are a perfect pair for a night out on the town. Want to see the item description? Click HERE.

Dreamy Vintage also carries a spectacular line of lockets. This one is another favorite of mine. It's called Lacy. An antique-silver locket, vintage-inspired, with a lovely bead attached to the silver plated chain. Simply elegant, simply romantic, simply pretty. To check out her entire line of lockets, click HERE.

For all things dreamy, and for beautifully vintage jewelry, I hope you will visit this shop. It's a great place to find a gift for yourself, or for someone else. Either way, Didem giftwraps your purchase for you! So even if it's for yourself, it's something you will truly be excited about receiving in the mail. =)

Visit Dreamy Vintage at!!!

I hope you all enjoyed the first feature shop of my blog. I'll be having another Feature Shop next week, so stay tuned. I think you're gonna like it!

Now that I've got over 35 followers on my blog, I'm doing my first giveaway. I'm so excited! I hope you are too. =)

So I've been thinking over the weekend...What should I give away as my giveaway item??? It's hard for me to decide. So, I've come to this:
I'll be giving away YOUR choice of ANY item from the car charms section of our Etsy shop, with FREE SHIPPING! AND --- if I get 50 followers for my blog by the time we reach the giveaway deadline, then we'll be giving away YOUR choice of ANY ITEM IN ANY SECTION of our shop. That's, right - ANY ITEM IN OUR SHOP!!! And to make it even better, if your chosen item is from our "4 a cause" section, we'll still donate the $2 for the non-profit organization specified in the listing.

Here is how to enter the giveaway:

2. You must leave at least two comments (it can even be on the same day).

Winner will be drawn on Saturday, March 27, 2010. We'll be putting all entries into a hat, and one of the kids will draw the winning name.
Any questions? Email us at or send us an Etsy convo.

More Followers

I'll be doing a giveaway ---- There's a catch, we need MORE FOLLOWERS so we can give something away.

We'll do a giveaway as soon as we get 35 followers on my blog.

Followers that have Etsy shops:
I'm searching for shops to be featured - starting NEXT week! I already have a few great shops in mind, but I need more to add to the list. I'll be featuring at least one shop per week. So, if you're interested in being featured on my blog, you'll need to: 1) be a follower of my blog and 2) leave some comments somewhere on my blog.

This blog is mostly an online journal of my family's adventure into the home-based small business world...But it's about to get even better & exciting - with featured shops and giveaways coming soon!

New Listing for a New Section

Well, despite the fact we are still working on photos, we decided to go ahead and add the new section today. But we're only listing one item for the day (that's the catch).
Introducing...justBpretty - a section for our jewelry.
Up until now, all our jewelry was listed only for our "just B for a cause" section. This new section will be mostly for our crystal jewelry. Of course, more types of jewelry will be added in the future, because we've got lots of creations awaiting their photography sessions!

Here is our first listing for the new section. Feel free to comment on the pics...Give us some advice, we'll take all we can get! =)

New Followers

I have some new followers! Yay! Welcome! I don't even know how many people actually read it, but I'm happy with followers, and happy that some readers even commented! Thanks so much!
Hope you don't find my blog too boring...But if you do, it's about to get more interesting, because now that I have over 15 followers, I'll be sharing some of my favorite shops each week - starting next week. =) I'm excited about this. I've found some really great shops, met some new friends, and I can't wait to start sharing...
Speaking of friends, I found an interesting forum thread at the end of last week...It was waaaay down at the bottom of the forum list in the ETC section. The title was simple --- "Making new friends on Etsy" --- and enticed me to take a peek and see what that was all about. Turns out, it's a bunch of great Etsians - some of which are part of a brand new Etsy team called Hearts and Hands United (HHU). I found this interesting, because, at the Newbie Chat last week, I threw out a question about teams and how you find them and how you join...It's funny how things work out! You can check out the team blog:

And how is our Etsy shop doing???
We sold our Egyptian Eye SunCatcher...It's the one we use as our avatar. It sure is a beauty...Someone is going to be lucky to have it creating dazzling rainbows soon enough!!!
That reminds me...I need to relist it.

We've been continuing with the attempts at improving our pictures. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. We'll keep working at that (and trying to use the photo editing stuff to brighten those dark ones). But in the meantime, we keep working on more items that we'll be adding to our shop...eventually, if we get some good shots!

We're getting closer to adding another new section. But, for now, I'll be keeping hush-hush about it, so if you're interested in finding out what it is...You'll have to come back and check my blog! =)
