Improve Your Mileage - Save that Gas!

I had to go to the gas station yesterday, and I put in $20. Uuuhhh...Not even a half-full tank (yes, I was on empty pulling in to the pump), and I've got an average sized car (park that SUV people, gas is expensive)! With prices at $112 for one barrel of oil, and over $5 for one gallon of gas in some places, I'm trying to save the gas that I do put in the tank. So, here are some ways that you could improve your gas mileage and stretch those dollars when it comes to fueling that car.

1. Don't idle!!!
- Newer engines don't even need to warm up for that long. If you've got an older model car, warm it up, but don't over do it.
- Going to a fast food place? Skip the drive-thru. Turn off the engine, and go inside. Or, if you're really that strapped for time, turn your engine off while waiting.

2. Check your tire pressure.
- Under-inflated tires wear out quicker, and they eat your gas.

3. Change or clean your car's air filter.
- A dirty air filter is like those under-inflated tires. Sometimes you don't even need to change the filter, you can clean it out with an air compressor until the next time you get that oil change.

4. Turn off your air conditioner.
- You don't need it on all the time. When it's on, it's sucking your car's power. You can turn it off when you're climbing up hills, and then turn it back on again. Do this, and you'll see...hear...your car's power increase/decrease.
- Turn off the A/C once your car is cool enough inside. You can just let the fan run to keep the air flowing. Switch it back on if it starts to get stuffy again.

5. Clean the car out! Empty that trunk.
- If you have stuff just hanging out in the trunk, not only is it just taking up space, it's making your car work harder with the extra weight. Clean out the trunk and the inside of the car to lighten the load.

6. Finally...Maintain a steady speed. Approach those stop lights and stop signs slowly, and then accelerate slowly (you don't need to go from 0-45 in 30 seconds - there's no race to be won, so slow down).
- Yep, sometimes people behind me get mad because I'm driving too slow for them. Oh well, I'm not wasting my gas just to get them off my bumper! And I'm not saying to drive so slow that you hold up traffic either. I'm just saying to maintain a steady speed, use cruise control on the freeway. When you know there's a stop light or stop sign coming up, there's no need to accelerate when you know you're gonna stop anyway. Slow down a little. It will pay off at the pump. Really.

Words for my Wednesday

I have this little inspiration notebook for writing ideas and thoughts, and in it there are quotes on the bottom of every page. Sometimes we all need a little inspiration. Today I thought I would share a few of those quotes with you.

"I love those who yearn for the impossible." - Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

"Some people make the world more special just by being in it." - Kelly Ann Rothaus

"If one is lucky, a solitary fantasy can totally transform one million realities."
- Maya Angelou

Which one is your favorite?

I finally relisted our paper bead necklace last Friday, and it sold that evening! Wow! We had listed this necklace last year, in honor of Earth Day. It's a simple necklace. Fun and eco-friendly. We sold one on Etsy, and the necklaces were a hit offline too! I had been meaning to relist the neckace for awhile, but I just didn't get around to it until last week. Now we've been busy making more paper beads so we can make more necklaces! We'll be listing one again very soon, and in time for Earth Day.

Today I also get to announce the winner of the giveaway I had as part of the linky for the Ultimate Blog Party 2011. This is how the winner was picked. There were 16 entries in the linky. Winner will receive choice of any item from either our section of car charms or cell charms, key chains, zipper pulls. Thanks goes out to all those that entered the linky. =)

I hope everyone had a great Monday!

Something for Free

Update: My blog list is back! Yay! =)

I just got a promo code for California mommies...It's an offer for a FREE baby carrier sling, valued at $39. I don't know much about these slings or this website, but it's an offer for something for FREE. And, the site is accredited by the Better Business Bureau. So, why not try it out? It doesn't have an expiration date at all, but it does say it's a time sensitive offer and valid only while supplies last. But go ahead, check it out. Free is always good.

The website:
The promo code:

Just go to the website, click on "shop now" and select the carrier you want. When you select the quantity and size, you'll automatically be directed to the "shopping bag." Enter the promo code, and all you pay is shipping costs. Pretty cool!

I tried it out. I don't know if I'll like the sling or not, but if it's free, I'll give it a try. I'll let you all know how it turns out...
Another thing too...After the transaction is complete, it gives another offer for
another SOMETHING for FREE - a nursing cover for breastfeeding mommies. But I went to visit that website, and all the covers are on backorder until April 25th. =( Maybe I'll try that site later.

Anyway, I wanted to share this promotion with you. Hopefully at least one of you will be able to use this promo code and get something for free! =)

Where did all my blogs go? When I sign into Blogger and go to my Dashboard, usually there's a list of all the blogs I follow. I use that to read the blogs and see the newest posts! It's not there today. Where did it go? It says that I'm not following any blogs! Is anyone else having this problem?

Well...Here's a Treasury that I made for today. Check it out!
