Friday Feature: Etchy Things

So I haven't been blogging much lately...I've missed all my blogging friends.  I had a teeny tiny bit of time to visit just a couple of blogs while I've been on a "blogging break," but I can't wait to get back to it.
To start things off, I'm proud to introduce today's Friday Feature from Etsy - Etchy Things & Myoga Craft Cave!

I asked owner Mei a few interview questions, and these were her responses.  Have fun getting to know the artist!  I know I did.  =)

Q: Please tell the brief story about your two shops and how they came to be.
A: The name Myoga Studio started with a yoga intention in mind. I am a certified yoga instructor and have been practicing yoga for almost 10years.

In 2010, I almost opened a yoga studio, but life happens and things fell through. At the time, I had this name, my website and a logo already completed. A professional photo shoot was done with a beautiful yoga themed website ready to go. All of that was dropped by the end of the year, and I gave birth to Myoga Craft Cave.

Etchythings was created after Myoga CraftCave, just a few months later with the intention of separating the two distinct businesses (paper crafts vs. laser engraving). In hindsight, all I really needed was a name update. :)
I chose Etchy Things because the first 2 letters matched Etsy and my crafts were done by my laser etching / cutting machine. I thought the name was reaaal cute.

I've always been a very creative person. Growing up, we didn't have a lot of toys or gadgets to play with so my imagination was always my go-to world and I'm always inspired to create something out of nothing.

You'll find my work here reflects my personality and my view on life. Occasionally, when my fiance has free time out of his multi-faceted life, (he is a scientist, researcher, fabricator with 2 Masters Degrees) he also contributes to some of the handmade wood and metal work here as well. He mocks me when I tell him he has ADD. (hehe)

Q: Pick a favorite item from each shop and tell why it's your favorite at the moment.
A: At the moment I'm really into making rubbers stamps, so I love them all from my etchythings store, but if I had to choose, I would actually choose the Lala Earrings.

These earrings were created from my friend's cat, Lala's silhouette by back etching the mirror material and finished it in a black stain. I think these are great and I love them!

On the MyogaStudio's side, my favorite is this Wedding Congratulations card

It's a perfect East meets West themed card; likened with my fiance and I's nationality. The story behind this card is special and that's what makes it special for me.

Q: What's something that makes you laugh?
A: A lot of things make me laugh. I believe laughter is the greatest and "cheapest" medicine. Did you know kids laugh 30-50x more than an adult? Taking life too seriously stresses people out and I find time to laugh at everything! But most of all, my fiance, Frank makes me laugh.... A LOT.

Q: I love quotes and sayings.  What is one of your favorite quotes?
A: Fave quote currently is: "If you wait for PERFECT conditions, you will never get anything done"- Ecc 11:4

Here's where you can find Mei around the Internet:

Hope you enjoyed today's Friday Feature.  Have a great weekend!
