Friday Feature: Etchy Things

So I haven't been blogging much lately...I've missed all my blogging friends.  I had a teeny tiny bit of time to visit just a couple of blogs while I've been on a "blogging break," but I can't wait to get back to it.
To start things off, I'm proud to introduce today's Friday Feature from Etsy - Etchy Things & Myoga Craft Cave!

I asked owner Mei a few interview questions, and these were her responses.  Have fun getting to know the artist!  I know I did.  =)

Q: Please tell the brief story about your two shops and how they came to be.
A: The name Myoga Studio started with a yoga intention in mind. I am a certified yoga instructor and have been practicing yoga for almost 10years.

In 2010, I almost opened a yoga studio, but life happens and things fell through. At the time, I had this name, my website and a logo already completed. A professional photo shoot was done with a beautiful yoga themed website ready to go. All of that was dropped by the end of the year, and I gave birth to Myoga Craft Cave.

Etchythings was created after Myoga CraftCave, just a few months later with the intention of separating the two distinct businesses (paper crafts vs. laser engraving). In hindsight, all I really needed was a name update. :)
I chose Etchy Things because the first 2 letters matched Etsy and my crafts were done by my laser etching / cutting machine. I thought the name was reaaal cute.

I've always been a very creative person. Growing up, we didn't have a lot of toys or gadgets to play with so my imagination was always my go-to world and I'm always inspired to create something out of nothing.

You'll find my work here reflects my personality and my view on life. Occasionally, when my fiance has free time out of his multi-faceted life, (he is a scientist, researcher, fabricator with 2 Masters Degrees) he also contributes to some of the handmade wood and metal work here as well. He mocks me when I tell him he has ADD. (hehe)

Q: Pick a favorite item from each shop and tell why it's your favorite at the moment.
A: At the moment I'm really into making rubbers stamps, so I love them all from my etchythings store, but if I had to choose, I would actually choose the Lala Earrings.

These earrings were created from my friend's cat, Lala's silhouette by back etching the mirror material and finished it in a black stain. I think these are great and I love them!

On the MyogaStudio's side, my favorite is this Wedding Congratulations card

It's a perfect East meets West themed card; likened with my fiance and I's nationality. The story behind this card is special and that's what makes it special for me.

Q: What's something that makes you laugh?
A: A lot of things make me laugh. I believe laughter is the greatest and "cheapest" medicine. Did you know kids laugh 30-50x more than an adult? Taking life too seriously stresses people out and I find time to laugh at everything! But most of all, my fiance, Frank makes me laugh.... A LOT.

Q: I love quotes and sayings.  What is one of your favorite quotes?
A: Fave quote currently is: "If you wait for PERFECT conditions, you will never get anything done"- Ecc 11:4

Here's where you can find Mei around the Internet:

Hope you enjoyed today's Friday Feature.  Have a great weekend!

Matching Shades

Near the end of May, I showed you my two daughters' matching shoes.  Now they've got matching sunglasses too.  My oldest once again splurged on her little sis.  Pretty cute!  What do you think?

I've never really had a pair of sunglasses.  My glasses, though, are the Transitions lenses (the photochromic lenses that turn into sunglasses in the sun)...Only, they're not really working properly now - meaning, they're not transitioning like they're supposed to.  Don't know why.

Do any of you have the Transitions lenses?  And, if you do, have you had any problems with them?

Happy Father's Day 2012

It's Father's Day.  The poem that I share today came from my son's Kindergarten class.  Each month, the kids make a calendar for the month to take home.  They made one with a special Father's Day theme for June, and it included this poem that I thought was perfect for a blog post!

Art work by our Kindergartener.

Walk a Little Slower

"Walk a little slower,"
Said a little child so small.
"I'm following in your footsteps,
And I don't want to fall.

Sometimes your steps are very fast,
Sometimes they're hard to see;
So walk a little slower,
For you are leading me.

 Someday when I'm all grown up,
You're what I want to be;
Then I will have a little child
Who'll want to follow me.

And I would want to lead just right,
And k now that I was true;
So, walk a little slower,
For I must follow you."

We've been pretty slow at getting new items into our Etsy shop (mostly because I'm slow with the photo process), but I thought I'd show you our latest.  Do you like it?

Do you think it would make a good gift for Father's Day?

Father's Day is Coming

OK, so where did the entire month of May go?  I can't believe it's already near the end of the first week of June already.  Before I know it, my boys are going to be out on summer vacation (they get out in late June)!  I better start thinking of ways to keep them busy...

My daughter will be starting summer classes at the end of June.  Then, of course, she'll have the summer leadership program to attend in mid-July as well - right between her two summer courses.

Maybe we'll be able to squeeze in a quick trip to the beach...It's a thought, at least!  Here is an item from our Etsy shop that might be suitable for Father's Day, with something from the beach too.

So May is over, and June is here.  With June comes Father's Day!  So now I'm on the hunt for great Father's Day items.  Do have an item to submit?  It can be handmade, vintage, or something you've found on the web (as long as there's a picture and site for me to link to).  If you have a great idea for a Father's Day gift, submit it here by leaving a comment!!!  I'll be featuring items right here on my blog through Father's Day!

Words for my Wednesday

Some great words I found for today...

“One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it’s worth watching.” –Unknown

 More flowers from our front yard!

This quote reminds me to look at the little things, because sometimes it's those little things that are the greatest memories.  =)

Fun Blog Hop

Some of my favorite blogs from the beginning of my blogging days have been found through blog hops.  Some of those blog hops that I've participated in for quite awhile I've noticed are no longer around (maybe they'll come back soon, at least I hope).  But...I thought I'd share with you one of my NEWER favorite blog hops.  Check it out, find new blogs, and get more followers yourself!
