Friday Feature & GIVEAWAY: Fushia Gold

Is it Friday again already?  I can't believe that tomorrow will be DECEMBER...

Anyway, time for another Friday Feature!  This week I'm introducing Freya from Fushia Gold, where you'll find unique geometric leather jewelry, and some butterflies & clouds too - you have to go check out the shop to see.  Freya uses bright & colorful shades and metallics, such a brilliant combination for modern pieces that stand out perfectly.  Just look at these Butterfly Wing Earrings (and remember, click on images for more info and product decriptions).

When asked how she got started in working with leather in her jewelry, this is what Freya said:
"I got started with leather when I was making bead and chain bracelets.  I had just gone through a brooch making phase and had some leather scraps which I incorporated into a bracelet. After a few months I decided I enjoyed working with leather more than beads, it gave me much better control over the shape, colour and design of my jewelry."

What inspires here to create?  Here is what she said:
"I have always had a compulsion to be making something, I tend to just get an idea and just have to try it out, that is how I began the clouds,I just thought of how nicely it would move, and I made the prototype for myself when I was moving across the country a few months ago in the back of my mums car...not advised when one of your tools is a needle."

Freya's beautiful giveaway prize piece is a Butterfly Wing Necklace.  I asked her what inspired her line of butterfly and cloud jewelry, and here's Freya's reply:
"I have always been interested in animals and nature, I grew up in the English and Irish countryside with woods and fields everywhere, I have a lot of animal memories! I like butterflies in particular simply from a design point of view, they are iconic without being too abstact, and they are pleasant shapes to create."

THE GIVEAWAY PRIZE!!!
As mentioned above, Freya is giving away a gorgeous Butterfly Wing Necklace in Black and Gold to one lucky 2justByou Blog reader!  Giveaway ends at midnight, pacific standard time on 12/15/12 and is open worldwide!

Pumpkin Pie Pictures as Promised

And here are the Pumpkin Pie pictures, as promised.  I made two of them, each with a little different spices this time, so I could see if that Pumpkin Pie Spice is any better.  I liked the one without the Pumpkin Pie Spice, though.  And it turned out to look prettier too.  I should've have worked on the pie crust to make it look a bit prettier, but I kind of made these in a hurry, so I didn't worry about that.  I don't think anyone noticed either.

I should have taken a picture of a slice with the whipped cream and all, but...The pies were really eaten way too fast for a photo op!  =0)  I just realized that I only took photos of the prettier pie.  I didn't take any of the one that I used the Pumpkin Pie Spice!  Well, that one came out a bit darker than this one.  You could tell they were different.

Have you used Pumpkin Pie Spice as a quicker way to make Pumpkin Pie?  What are your thoughts on it?

Friday Feature & Giveaway: Partly Sunny Studio

Today's Friday Feature is...

Rachel is the artist - and a wonderful one at that.  She has a great attitude and lovely art pieces that you have to go and see for yourself!

What will you find in this lovely Etsy shop?

You will find original abstract modern artwork and fine art prints; palette knife impasto paintings on gallery wrapped canvas. Trees, flowers, birds, animals, landscapes... and custom artwork commissions are always welcome!

Plus, the shop donates at least 10% of the purchase price from every painting sold. The money will be given to organizations such as World Wildlife Fund and Save Tigers Now.  How cool is that?

I was curious to know the answer to the next question: How did your shop get its name?  This was the answer (and I love it):
You know when you're looking up the weather, and they say it will be 'partly sunny' or 'partly cloudy'? I've always thought that funny -- because if it is partly sunny, then it must also be partly cloudy (and vice versa), right?  So it seems a matter of 'is the glass half empty or half full?' and partly sunny = half full = good; so Partly Sunny Studio won the name game! :)

I asked Rachel if she has a favorite color that she likes to use in her art and why.  This was her reply:
Blue! I use way too much blue. I'm not really sure why... Lately, though, I've been trying very hard to broaden my horizon and use other colors more often!

Rachel is offering a Set of 6 Watercolor Note Cards to one lucky 2justByou Blog reader!  It's easy to enter, just read below:

Please leave a separate comment for each entry and include your email in at least the first entry (in case you are the winner).  Giveaway ends on 12/8/12 at midnight, Pacific Standard Time and is open worldwide.  Winner will be drawn by random.org, announced here on the blog, and winner will be notified by email and have at least 48 hours to claim prize.  Good luck!!!

 Mandatory entries:
1. Follow Rachel's blog @  http://www.partlysunnystudio.com/

Words for my Wednesday

Cozy Feet

So I've had these pictures for a long time, because I got these slipper boots for Baby Girl last year...I know...I'm so bad!  I don't know why I didn't blog about them back then (I meant to).  I've really been getting better at blogging more steadily these past few months, and I've been enjoying it too.

So here they are...Handmade slipper boots for OH-SO-COZY FEET!!!

Found them on Etsy (of course) from one of our very favorite sellers, GrammaLea.  She's got all kinds of slippers, hats, face scrubbies and so much more!  In the spring and summer, she's got great flip flops too.

What do you think? Do you think Baby Girl's feet stayed cozy?  Good news is...These still fit her!  I got them a little bit big last year, so she's got cozy feet right now.  =0)

Do you have a favorite pair of slippers to wear during the colder months?
I'll be honest...I don't!  I just wear socks.  I know, how boring is that, right?  Maybe this year I'll splurge for some new slippers...

Muffins for Monday

Lemon Muffin Recipe

Some of you may know that my daughter attends a summer program at our local State University, earning her extra high school credits.  Since she will be a high school junior next year, this upcoming summer she'll have the opportunity to take courses for COLLEGE credits instead.  So, it's pretty exciting!

Over the past summer, she took a course in learning how to cook.  She was taught by a professor in food & nutrition at CSU, Sacramento.  One of the exercises the students did was make muffins from scratch.  Today, we're sharing the recipe with you, because these muffins were REALLY good!!!  We've already made them a few times.  =0)

Ingredients:
1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup plus 3 Tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 Tbsp baking powder
1 egg
2/3 cup milk
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp lemon zest (grated lemon rind)
1/3 cup oil

Directions:
1. Preheat oven 400 degrees F. Lightly spray 6 muffin cups with baking spray.

2. Into a medium bowl, sift dry ingredients (flour, 1/2 cup sugar, salt & baking powder).

3. In small bowl, combine liquid ingredients ( egg, milk, oil & lemon juice).

4. Add liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients, all at once, and stir until dry ingredients are just moistened.  Batter will look lumpy.

5. Spoon batter into muffin cups (filling about 2/3 full).

6. Combine remaining 3 Tbsp sugar & lemon zest.

It will look like this. --------------------------->>>

Sprinkle mixture over tops of muffins.

7. Bake 15 to 20 minutes, or until muffins are lightly browned.

8. Remove pan from oven; carefully remove muffins from muffin cups immediately.  Cool muffins on wire rack.

Note: For a bit less of a lemon flavor, use just 1 Tbsp of lemon juice.  For added lemon flavor, you can add a bit of lemon zest to the muffin batter before pouring into muffin cups.  We add just a hint of lemon zest to it, and we love it!
Next we'll try adding some fresh blueberries (I love blueberries) too.  I bet that would be yummy.

These muffins have a real soft, perfect texture, and the topping gives a perfect little crunch!  Enjoy!

What is your favorite type of muffin?

Friday Feature & Giveaway: Norah's Nook

For today's Friday Feature, I present....

Norah's Nook specializes in applique clothing, boutique hair bows, stylish accessories for babies, and hand knit hats.  Amy is the owner and creator, and she adds new items to her shop quite frequently (which is great, because every time you visit, there's something new to see).

When asked how Amy started with her Etsy shop, this is what she said:
I have always enjoyed creating and I grew up watching my mother knit and my grandmother sew.  I was in search of the perfect baby gift for some friends and decided to make tie oneseis for their baby shower.  At the baby shower a friend suggested I try selling the onesies on Etsy.  At first I thought it would be a fun hobby and now I am addicted.  I love adding new items to my shop.

Amy says this about her pacifier clips:
I received a pacifier clip as a baby shower gift and thought it was a great idea.  After it broke I went in search of a new one but didn't like the length of the ones I found at the store.  I thought, "I can make something much cuter and more practical."  My daughter has several clips and we never leave home without her pacifier clipped to her.

What inspires Amy to create?  Here's her answer:
My daughter.  I always like for her to look cute, but still like a sweet baby.  Also, I like to create items that are practical.  For example, I started adding mitten clips to my shop after I bought my baby girl a pair of mittens with a string and then started reading horror stories online about mitten strings.
I also travel every chance I get and try to look at what people in other cultures are wearing.

This adorable hat is one of Amy's favorites from her shop, because she loves making it.
She says knitting is her form of meditation.

Amy's favorite part of the holiday season?
I currently live in Germany and it is such a magical place during the holiday season.  The Christmas markets are just amazing and it really puts you in good cheer.  This is my first Christmas as a mom and I am really excited about carrying on traditions with my daughter and starting new traditions.

Friday Feature: True Foundation Creations

Everyone meet Micaela from True Foundation Creations at foundationcreations.etsy.com.  Take a peek into Micaela's wonderful shop and you will find a nice variety of handmade beauties, from crocheted items & unique jewelry, to pretty ornaments and lovely keepsakes.  Each item in her shop is made with ultimate care, and it shows.

When asked how she started crafting, this was Micaela's answer:
"I have been an avid crafter for as long as I can remember...even at a young age I "crafted"...I would sit and watch craft shows and then try to "recreate" what I saw them make!"

How did she get started with Etsy?  She tells us right here:

"It's actually a really long story...but I will sum it up by saying that it was really just a natural fit for me...I'm a crafter who loves to make things and If I can share the joy I find in doing what I love with others, I will...through teaching, giving or sharing my creations with you through Etsy.
I have been blessed with many opportunities to learn many different things in my life and I know that I can't keep these wonderful blessings to myself...I must use them to glorify the One who has made me and blessed me with the abilities and opportunities to share what I love to do with others every chance I get!"

What inspires her to create?  Here's what she said:
"Gods amazing creations really inspire me to create items that reflect his beautiful work!"

In closing, here is what Micaela wants us to know about her shop, her handmade items, and something about herself too:

"Every item in my store is carefully and uniquely hand-made with lots of care and love!

I value all of my customers and want to see them completely satisfied with their purchases.

I try my hardest to present you with a quick, easy, and convenient transaction and hold my standards to Proverbs 31:18- "She perceives that her merchandise is good..."

I will always strive to make sure that you will get the best quality item for a fair price!"

And did I mention that she's a newer member of the Blogging Buddies team???  =0)
