Happy New Year 2013

It's New Year's Eve, and there's so much to celebrate (after all, the world didn't end, did it?)

Much thanks goes out to all my blog readers and followers. You have truly made my 2012 a great one. Blogging has become something really fun for me, and I always look forward to reading comments and visiting other blogs. Thank you!

Here are some images I found by googling 2013...

I love the color in this one:

This one reminds me of my favorite from last year, which you can see HERE.

I had to find one with the fireworks look!  Looks like sparklers, doesn't it?

And I love the colors in this one.

Wishing you much happiness & laughter for the new year...Welcome 2013 with a smile!

I'll be taking tomorrow off from blogging, so I wanted to also share with you the Family Inspired Fashion Giveaway WINNER today. BIG CONGRATS TO...

JENNIFER D.

She won a $25 gift certificate to Family Inspired Fashion!!!  I wonder what she'll choose with her certificate.  One of the mandatory entries was to choose a favorite item from the sponsor shop. Jennifer said she likes ALL the dresses - she couldn't choose one.  Looks like she'll have to make a decision now that she's won!  =0)

Happy New Year, everyone!

Yep, it's Madison Street Beauty, one of the top sellers on Etsy with over 36,000 sales.  This shop offers offers 100% natural handmade mineral makeup - including eye shadow, foundation, concealer, eye liner, brow powder, eyeshadow primer, blush, bronzer, highlighter, setting powder, lip balms and a wide selection of vegan cosmetics.

My daughter is 16 years old (she just had a birthday, and I can't believe that she's already 16...) and really just starting to experiment with makeup.  I myself never wore very much makeup (and still don't), but that doesn't mean I don't like to try new products (especially when I can do it with my daughter).  I thought we would try some makeup from Madison Street Beauty.  We bought sample sizes of a few different eye shadows (in colors silver star, rain [pictured above, right] & red currant), the aloe setting powder, a foundation, a vegan lip sheer (lip tint in color honey hive) and an aromatherapy vegan lip balm (lemon scent).

My daughter's favorite item was the honey hive vegan lip sheer.  It goes on smoothly and feels great on the lips.  The tint is just right, not too much, not too little.  It's perfect.  If you like lip tints, you'll love the lip sheers from MSB!

I should also mention that our purchases were in two different orders.  With our first order, we didn't order any shadows.  We were just going to review the setting powder, foundation and the lip sheer.  Madison Street Beauty was kind enough to send us a sample of their eye shadow (Skyline and Starry Night), and after trying it out, we had to go back for more colors (and more of the lip sheer).  The colors are gorgeous, so vivid - even when applied, and long-lasting.  We wanted to try more colors, and that's when we ordered the three samples mentioned above.  It definitely won't be our last purchase from Madison Street Beauty!

At the time of our second order, they were out of the lip sheer, so we ordered the lemon lip balm (which my daughter equally loves).  Great scent, and I'm sure the other scents are just as fabulous!  You can check out all the lip balms and see what you might like.

At first I was hesitant to try loose eye shadows, because I've never tried them before, but it was definitely worth the try.  These colors are absolutely stunning!  I mean it.  Can't wait to try more colors.  =0)  And that's another thing that's so great about MSB: They sell sample sizes so you can try it out first.  I must say...The Aloe Setting Powder is excellent - goes on so smoothly (just like the lip balms), it really makes it almost effortless to apply.  And for me, someone who doesn't normally wear makeup, this says A LOT!

And don't forget, Madison Street Beauty is holding a HUGE CLEARANCE SALE right NOW till the end of the year (that's only a few days)!!!

Okay, so I don't want ramble on and on and keep you from the AMAZING GIVEAWAY!!!

Here's the deal:

You can win a sample eye shadow set including the colors listed below (my daughter's picks):
*Hot Chocolate
*Espresso
*Celestial Silver
*Rain
*Silver Star
*Skyline
PLUS, these two goodies from the lip balm section:
*Orange & Lavender Lip Balm
*Lip Sheer Lip Tint in Sweet Pea

Enter by using the Rafflecopter form below.  Please complete the mandatory entries in full (if not, another winner will be chosen).  Giveaway ends at midnight on Saturday, January 19th, 2013 Eastern Standard Time and is open worldwide.

IMPORTANT UPDATE (as of 1/19/13 at 12:00 PM pst)!!!
I sincerely apologize...The rafflecopter entries have ended 24 hours early.  I attempted to open it back up for entries, but had no luck.  Due to this unfortunate setback, I will hold another MSB giveaway in the VERY NEAR future, I promise!  I apologize for any inconvenience.  Thank you for your understanding.

Words for my Wednesday

For this week's Words for my Wednesday post, I'm asking YOU to help me out by finishing this sentence:

I've already decided that for the new year, I really need to get fit and get back in shape.  After having Baby Girl two whole years ago, I've seriously been lacking motivation.  So let's see if I can do it this year.  I've got a couple of bloggy friends that are keeping me motivated as a secret weapon now (even if they don't even know it)!

Now it's your turn.  If you have a New Year's Resolution, please share it with a comment!  As a bonus, each comment will by counted as an entry in our three-month-long giveaway sponsored by MiraDoson.etsy.com for a chance to win THREE 8x10 prints from her lovely shop (please leave your blog url and/or email).  More info on this great giveaway is RIGHT HERE.

So go ahead, make your resolution (if you haven't already) and share it with me!

Happy Wednesday, and thanks for visiting.  =0)

Popular Pins

Christmas Eve is upon us...I will be borrowing a camera (I hope) to be able to take some holiday photos.  I've needed a new camera for so long, but I really liked my old one because it was super user-friendly.  Plus, I just don't have the extra money to spend if my current camera works well enough.  Well enough is now not at all!  It completely broke down right at the beginning of the month.  It froze while taking a picture, and now it's just a total lost cause.

Back in May, I asked for your help with my blog post, and there were a lot of suggestions for Canon cameras...So that was what was put on my Christmas wishlist.  I know I can't get a real super nice DSLR that I would LOVE to have, but I'll settle for an affordable point and shoot that does well with close-ups.  =0)  We'll have to see if I get one or not...

Anyway, since I don't have any photos of my own to share with you today, I'd like to share the Popular Pins of last week from my Pinterest boards.  Enjoy!

Blogger Day of Silence in Support of Sandy Hook

It's all over the news, this terrible tragedy in the small town of Newtown, Connecticut.  On Saturday, just a handful of bloggers wrote this post (shown below) together, in support of all those effected.  Bloggers can help make a difference.  Every little bit helps.  We are proud to participate.  Please read below for more information.

A day of silence to remember the lives that were taken.
The below message was copied and pasted here for you to read.
*****************

To the Blog World and Anyone Else who Wants to Help,
Last Friday, tragedy struck so many of us in ways we did not foresee. An elementary school and small town in Connecticut was shattered by a mass shooting.
On Tuesday, December 18th, there will be a blogger day of silence. We will post the button and that’s it. Please try to not post anything else that day if possible.
We are also raising money that will go to an organization in the memory of this tragedy. The organization is called The Newtown Family Youth and Family Services http://www.newtownyouthandfamilyservices.org/.

Here is the official description of the support service we are donating to:
“Newtown Youth and Family Services, Inc. is a licensed, non-profit, mental health clinic and youth services bureau dedicated to helping children and families achieve their highest potential. NYFS provides programs, services, activities, counseling, support groups and education throughout the Greater Newtown area.
"ANY DONATIONS MADE TO NEWTOWN YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES WILL BE DONATED DIRECTLY TO THOSE EFFECTED BY THE SANDY HOOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SHOOTING.”
Please visit here to make your donation.
We can’t imagine how they must be feeling, especially this close to the holidays. We would love for you to spread the word on your own blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Let’s make a difference and use blogging in a positive way.
Thank you in advance for participating.
Love,
The Blog World

I found out about this Blogger Day of Silence from a friend's blog, located here:

Friday Feature & GIVEAWAY: Family Inspired Fashion

Welcome to this week's Friday Feature!!!

Family Inspired Fashion on Etsy is a shop offering unique and fashionable dress sets for girls.  It is run by a mother/daughter duo with over 40 years of experience.  Here's a little bit about Keri and Yulanda:

"With a houseful of girls, we have been sewing clothes and costumes for them forever. We decided to share our creations with others.  We like to do sets. When our children and grandchildren were small,we always liked to dress them in sets. Rarely could you find a complete set like what we sell."

Being that they are a mother and daughter team, I asked if they ever "bump heads" creatively, and here's their answer:

"We don't really bump heads. We each do our own thing but we do talk about what we're doing and offer each other advice."

When asked what inspires their designs, this was their reply:

"I think about the style, material and trims. The time of year also makes a difference. Although we live in the south and it doesn't get cold often, other parts of the country."

Would Family Inspired Fashion ever do pieces for boys?  Here's what they said:

"We want to do pieces for boys. We are going to do a christening set. It's harder to do things for boys that aren't average."

Family Inspired Fashion is giving one lucky 2justByou Blog reader a $25 gift certificate!!!  Simply fill out the rafflecopter form below!  This giveaway ends at midnight on Saturday 12/29/12 Eastern Standard Time.  Open worldwide.

Minty Holiday Cookies

OK...With the holidays comes decorations, wrapping presents, parties, and...BAKING!!!  One thing we usually do as tradition is bake a bunch of holiday sweet treats, make some fun stuff (cards and/or ornaments) and give them to neighbors, friends and family.

The kids love making sugar cookies, but sometimes there's just not enough time to make those.  This year I wanted to search for something different, but still fun to wrap up and give...Something festive for the holiday season.  One of the things I found was...MINT CHOCOLATE COOKIES from Crafty Corner!

We tried baking these over the weekend, just to see how they would turn out.  Andes Mints are a key ingredient.  They are delicious!  The kids say they taste like mint chip ice cream.  YUM!  And the color makes it really fun.

Ingredients:
2 3/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 egg
1 tsp mint extract
15-20 drops green food coloring (we used 18 drops to be exact)
1 bag (about 10 oz) Andes Mints chopped

Directions:
1. Preheat over 375 degrees Farenheit.
2. Sift dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt) together & set aside.
3. Cream butter & sugar together until smooth.
4. Beat in egg & mint extract.
5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
6. Add green food color until even in color.
7. Fold in the chopped mints.
8. Roll teaspoonfuls of dough into rounded balls, place on ungreased cookie sheets about 2 inches apart and flatten.
9. Bake 8-10 minutes.  Let stand on cookie sheet about 2 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

I think we made almost five dozen cookies (and some of them the kids made REAL big, so...).   Enjoy!!!

These are sure to be a new family favorite now that we've tried them and the kids loved them.  Do you have any favorite Holiday Cookies?
