Leaving Comments and Being a No-Reply Blogger

So I've got a question for you all.

When you leave a comment on a blog, do you go back and check to see if there was a reply to your comment?

My guess is probably not.  I know I don't...At least, not usually.  If it's a blog I visit often, and I know I asked a question, I might take a quick peek.  Most of the time, though, I don't.  But I love the idea of replying to comments.  I've tried using the "reply" feature within the comments, but I just don't think that people come back to look for replies.  So I'm asking you!

Most of the time, to show my love for comments, I'll go to the blog of the person who left me a comment and leave a comment of my own.  It's my way of showing appreciation, and it's also an excuse to go and visit the blog!  I don't get to visit all the blogs that I want, but I always try to go and visit the blogs with bloggers that have visited mine.

Well, just a few months ago, I received an email from a blogger friend, and she let me know that I was a No-Reply Blogger.  What?!?  How could this be???

As it turns out, when Google Plus profiles overtook Blogger, my Blogger profile was no longer in use.  This wasn't huge news to me, but I learned that it can effect the traffic to your blog.  I thought I had taken care of it by adding my blogger info (and link) on my Google+ profile page, but that takes extra steps (and clicks), making it kind of annoying.  So then I began to go ahead and leave my blog URL with every comment.  I then proceeded to revert to the old Blogger interface, so when I leave comments, it's with my Blogger profile (as opposed to my Google+ profile).  This makes it easier for people to get to my blog when they click on my avatar or username by my comment.

Then, just a few months ago, I received an email from a kind blogger friend, letting me know that I was a No-Reply Blogger.  What?!?  Now how could this be?  I thought I fixed that!  Well, I guess when I reverted back to my old profile, some setting had been mixed up, so I had to fix it for my email to show.  Now, when I leave comments, bloggers can reply to my comment by sending me an email!  And I love getting replies!!!  So it made me think...Maybe some of my readers would like to get replies from ME.  But as I've come to notice, lots of my readers happen to be No-Reply Bloggers.  So I usually end up just going to their blogs and leaving comments of my own (like I would anyway, even if I could reply too).

Anyway, if you're a No-Reply Blogger and want to change that, CLICK HERE for this great tutorial that not only explains how to make your email visible and able to accept email replies to your blog comments, but also how to switch back to the old Blogger interface from Google+.

What's your preference?
Would you like to be emailed a reply to your blog comment?  Or would you be more likely to go back to the blog post and check for a reply?
Either way, I will always try to go to your blog, read a post (or two), and leave a comment of my own as well.

Unless there is some sort of debate, deep discussion, or question asked, I generally don't go back and look (because generally it's a waste of time). I do like you and choose to comment on their posts instead. Whether or not I answer kind of depends on if I think it will add anything.

I'm with you. I like to reply to comments via e-mail, but so many people are no-reply bloggers. I don't usually go back to a blog to see replies. I have occasionally signed up to get replies via e-mail, but then you wind up getting notification of all comments that follow yours, not just those that are a direct reply to your own comment.

I also try to go to the blogs of people who comment on my blog even if I have replied to their comment via e-mail. I like to see other blogs, plus I think it's polite to reciprocate!

I love getting the email reply! I have Disqus for comments, every time someone comments on a post I get an email and it is so easy to reply back to them via the email (which it also puts my reply on the blog post)! LOVE IT!

I don't go back to blogs to see if the writer replied back to me. But doesn't stop me from reading their blog!

I love to get replies in emails . I don't really like the idea of a Google+ profile for a blogger .

I don't use Disqus, but I still get email notifications from Blogger when comments are left. I do have a Disqus account (for some other blogs I visit often, so maybe I'll look into that too).

But definitely...Just because I don't go back and check for comment replies on the blogs, doesn't mean I don't visit those blogs. I love all my bloggy friends and the great blogs I've found!

I use Disqus , if you comment on a post and someone is replying back to you,
there will be a red icon, that you've got a reply and on what post it is and the link :)

I'm like you...I rarely return to a post where I've left a comment. I make sure my email is available for bloggers to reply to my email. I love leaving commentors replies, but I hate getting the "no-reply" email and then I can't reach them.
I also like to visit those that have visited me, so I often leave a comment and answer their question on their blog.
Feel free to reply to my email when you like :)

Thanks for bringing up this subject with tutorial included! IT changes so quickly that I never feel I am caught up on it. I don't usually go back to the same post unless I am emailed a response. I hadn't really thought otherwise until now! Thanks for bringing this up.

I rarely go back to a blog to check for replies -- but I do receive comment notifications on my blog emails and either reply to that, or go to their blog -- usually both! If they have commented on my blog because I have commented on theirs, then I reply to the email if appropriate. For no-reply comments, I check their profile to find the blog. I've stayed away from Goggle Plus -- I hope it never comes down to HAVING to use it and no more Blogger Profiles! People seem to rarely put a link to their blog on their G+ profile and, if you don't have the blog name, you're out of luck to find them.

Thanks for this post. It sounds a bit complicated and I always feel like I'm a bit behind. I usually visit my fave blogs (like yours) through the google reader tool. Only if I know there are frequent replies, will I go back and check. Like you, I comment on posts as a show of appreciation.

Hmmm... I used to send email replies, but so many commenters were no-reply bloggers, that I have started using the "reply" feature. I like it but I agree with you that people probably don't ever come back to check. Some blogs have an option where you can click a box "I want an email notification if someone replies to my comment," but I'm not sure if there's a way to set that up in Blogger...

Off to make sure I'm not a no-reply blogger. I didn't use to be, but I've changed some settings, so now I'm not sure!!

if it's a post that I am really interested in, I click the email box when I leave a comment, then I get the emails for other comments and replies.

Hi! What a great post! I try to visit the blog also to leave a comment. I don't know how many times I've had to change my No-Reply blogger. So frustrating!! Thanks for the great post. Your newest follower. :)

Thank you ALL so much for sharing your thoughts with me!

Wanna check to see if you're a No-Reply Blogger or not? It's easy. Simply click your name that appears next to your avatar. If you're redirected to your Blogger Profile (not your G+)...It will say Blogger: User Profile in the newly opened tab, then you're on the right interface. Next, you check on the left side and under "Contact Me" it should list "Email." If the word "email" isn't there, then you're a No-Reply Blogger.

I really like this post, too. I had someone tell me they had a very difficult time finding my blog address on the new Google+ profile and I've had the same problem at other people's profiles. I noticed that some of the Google+ profiles I visit have their blog address on the front page. I think I need to work on that.

Anyway, thanks for this post. Very needful. I'm featuring you also on my blog.

I have my blog set up to email me when someone posts, but I will admit unless I'm asked a direct question I don't go back and respond...or unless I have something witty and charming to say (when don't I?) lol

But I do prefer to get the email as opposed to having to check back. I'll have to go and check all of my settings.

Great post. I never knew about showing your email address but guess I'd be nervous about getting spam mail if I make it public.

Personally, I always just use the reply button if someone asks a question or I have a remark about their comment. If I ask a question on a blog, I like going back to check but I find usually people don't reply.

I do exactly what you've described, lol. Although if I ask a question in the comment I click on the notify me via email in WordPress. As far as blogger is concerned it would be better to get a reply via email, as checking back totally slips from my mind unless I pin the tab.

I didn't know this, how interesting. Thanks for sharing this info, it was very helpful. I visit blogs regularly so if I ask a question in the comments I usually go back and check to see if their is an answer.
