Teaching Kids about Recycling with Books

Our family absolutely loves the Scholastic book orders from their school classrooms.  Book orders offer a chance for families to purchase books at low prices to expand childrens' home libraries, while earning points for the classroom libraries as well.  It's a total win-win!  And I don't know about you, but I love hardcover and paperback books!  Even though we're in such a digital world, there's nothing like curling up on the sofa with a good book for what my youngest son calls "Happy Story Time."

For April, we chose to order a couple of books in honor of Earth Day.  These great titles were so affordable, and they have a great message for kids; recycling is good for the environment.
This first one is all about Earth Day and is a fun read because of the rhymes.  It follows the storyline of a monkey who has a birthday that just happens to fall on Earth Day.

This one shares reasons why recycling is good for the environment and explains why it's good to recycle.  In this book, a teacher is teaching his class all about recycling.

I found both titles on amazon.com, where they are available for purchase (in both digital and hardcopy forms).  You can click on the images above for more info.  =0)  If you have a school age child, though, and the classroom offers Scholastic book orders, I highly recommend ordering for the discounted rate!

Yay! Such an important thing to teach your kids! They definitely didn't have books like this when I was growing up. Very cool.

Can't wait until my son is in school and we can do Scholastic book orders -I used to love getting the flyers and the prices were amazingly affordable.

These books look cute, I'll have to check the library! I totally forgot Earth Day was this month and it'd be great to tie it in to a little Earth day party for him :)
