Summer Skincare

Summer brings sunshine, and lots of it.  With summer here in full swing, it's important to take care of your skin.  I recently received a message from Eucerin (maker of one of our favorite lotions), and I thought I would pass along the skincare advice for summer.  Here are the ABCs of summertime skincare:

The sun's UVA rays are a primary factor in premature aging.  We don't want to look older, faster, do we?  Do you want wrinkly skin before it's your time?

The sun's harmful UVB rays are the main reason we get sunburned, and BOTH of these types of rays are a cause of cancer!

Caring for your skin is the best way to protect against the sun's UVA and UVB rays.  Start at an early age, because starting a good habit while you're young is the best way to go.  Just because you're not a kid anymore doesn't mean that this doesn't apply to you, though.  It's never too late to start caring for your skin.  Make it a routine to lather on the sunscreen and protect your skin (and not just during summer months, either, but all year round).

The US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) made some changes to the way the product labels read on sunscreens this year.  I found this nice little youtube video about The ABCs of Sun Protection for you to view, when you have time.  It explains the new changes.

Eucerin offers an every day lotion for face

and one for body that have Broad Spectrum SPF 30.

More of our favorites include:

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Broad Spectrum SPF 70 Sunscreen

These are just a few of our favorites, and all of the above sunscreens are also great for sensitive skin (a MUST for my youngest son with severe eczema).

If you did have the three minutes to spare and watch the video above, you'll remember that sunscreen, no matter what kind, needs to be reapplied every two hours.  Well, that can get costly!  But, guess what...Consumer Reports revealed earlier this year that the best sunscreens are NOT necessarily the most expensive ones!  Two of the Top 3 were store brand sunscreens.

You can read more about the Consumer Reports rating HERE, from Business Insider.

So I hope we can all remember the ABCs of Skincare, especially now that we're full swing into the summer season and sunshine.

What's your favorite sunscreen?

Right now we're using Babyganics because it's so much more natural than the others with less of the bad stuff moms don't want. And I'm a firm believer in sunscreen.

It's not really a must have here in Belgium to use sunscreen since our weather is mostly bad in summer but I do have an SPF in my foundation and day cream from bodyshop and when I buy sunscreen it's usually from Piz Buin of Bodysol.

Nothing beats the smell of sun screen! I use a more expensive Aveeno sunscreen for my son who has eczema and whatever is cheapest for my husband and me.

Thanks for the informative post!

Now that I'm getting older I see people noticing ill affects of the sun...the price to be paid for careless tanning for so m any years. If only we could turn back time and take it more seriously!! Def. an area to be proactive in. Thanks for the post!!

Thanks for the consumer report list. I don't have a favorite but often buy the coppertone baby and sports brand. Glad to see it on the list. Have a great weekend!

I'm currently using my Suqqu sunscreen. I bought it a couple of years ago, and I didn't realize I had it in my makeup collection until recently. :)

I buy whatever is on sale at the store. I'm in the market for a reputable sunscreen for kids. I don't like all the harmful chemicals.

Thanks for your support and linking up to my weekly BlogLovin Hop ( I think of you all the time.

We usually avoid the sun during the day to avoid burning. The rest of the time, we use whatever baby sunscreen is on sale.

I always use whatever sunscreen is on sale but I really need to find one that will work on a face that is extremely acne prone. That's not so easy to find.

Thanks for sharing this! I'm currently searching for a good drugstore sunscreen for both my face and body, so this was very informative! I have been using high end products, but they are going to be complete I will get around to trying these soonish!
