The Great & Powerful Giant Pumpkin

We've attended the Giant Pumpkin Festival of Elk Grove, CA for the past few years now. The theme for 2013 was "The Great & Powerful Giant Pumpkin." It's always fun to go to this event, because there's always so much to do and see (and free admission). There are always lots of vendors, community booths and carnival games. Plus a petting zoo, the pumpkin weigh-off, and more great entertainment (this year they even had some real carnival rides there).
You can see my posts from previous years too: 2011, 2012 part 1, part 2 & part 3.

These were the winning Giant Pumpkins of the year.

First Place Winner

First and Second Place Winners

First, Second, Third Places

We always snap a shot of one of the directories. =0)

The Petting Zoo is always fun. They always have bunnies, goats, chickens and roosters. This year they even had a couple of snakes and lizards!

Each year, there is a scarecrow contest for the best scene to go along with the year's theme. The Wizard of Oz is such a fun theme! We loved all the scenes that we saw. There was definitely a lot to choose from, and I'm wondering which scenes won (we didn't find out).

Here are some of our favorites.

And that was our visit to the Giant Pumpkin Festival this year. Lots of fun! It always is.
Do you attend any fall festivals in your area?

Those pumpkins are insane! I can't even imagine a pumpkin that heavy. I wish they would put them to good use though -like a pumpkin pie cookoff! We had a big one around here when I was a little kid, it wound up in the Guinness book of world records -the first one over 1000 lbs. Although it's much more common now to have em that heavy!

I wonder if anyone tried sitting on the pumpkins (there's a sign that you're not allowed to). Tonight pumpkin's on the menu :-)

This festival look so fun! The pumpkins are nuts. It is funny when they get that big and the shape really distorts.

With Wizard of Oz Scarecrows are too cute!

Those pumpkins are so crazy! I actually have an uncle who does that. It takes an amazing amount of discipline and work. I don't know about you, but I'm happy to just watch :)

Wow, they don't even look like pumpkins anymore! I wish they had a festival like that near my area. It'd be the perfect place to get inspiration for halloween decorating.
