Happy Veterans Day

While Veterans Day is the official kick-off for retail sales before Black Friday, it's an important day to honor those that have served the United States in the armed services.

This year, today is not just Veterans Day observed, it is the official day - November 11, 2013.

A few fun facts:
* The first Armistice Day was in the year 1919.
* In 1926, Armistice Day was declared a legal holiday.
* In 1945, a WWII veteran had the idea to expand the holiday to include all veterans, not just those who died during World War I.
* The official name change from Armistice Day to Veterans Day was in the year 1954.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs creates yearly posters for Veterans Day, going back as far as 1978. Today's graphic is this year's poster. Visit the gallery and see posters from years past. I had lots of fun looking through them.

Much thanks goes out to all military families, past and present. Happy Veterans Day!

What are you doing today?

My family and I are truly thankful for all veterans, both current and passed, that have served our country. Making sure our kids understand the great sacrifices that our military heroes endure is a to-do today!
