Wear a Scarf for a Cause {Product Review & GIVEAWAY}

SMILES BY JEM: Product Review & Giveaway

I was never really much of a scarf person, but they've grown on me as an accessory because of their versatility and timelessness. My daughter loves them. So when I was contacted by Janelle of Smiles by JEM about a product review and hosting a giveaway, my answer was an immediate "Yes," especially after learning that they donate 10% of their proceeds from scarf sales to SOS Children's Villages in Thailand. Plus, their jewelry line (look for more coming soon in Fall 2013) donates 10% of proceeds to Food Share in Ventura, California.
Janelle and Megan are the owners of Smiles by JEM, living in Ventura County, California and travelling to Thailand a few times each year since 2010 where they design and make their scarves. They also purchase beads from Thailand (and Peru & the U.S.) for their handmade jewelry.

1 - Smiles by JEM scarves, so many colors to choose from!
2 - Koh Phi Phi, Thailand
3 - SOS Children's Village in Thailand
4 - Fun with scarves

Here is a little excerpt from their About Page on Etsy:
Smiles by JEM was founded by two friends who wanted share their passion for fashion, culture and travel with the rest of the world. Focusing our efforts on fashion, travel, and philanthropy, we founded JEM.
By supporting JEM and wearing our scarves, you will help support a child's development and together we will encourage similar programs to be established around the world.
Take a look at this video to learn more about Smiles by JEM (it's only about 5 minutes!):

For the product review, we were able to choose which scarf we wanted. My daughter likes neutrals (much like me), so we went with a grey/light grey two-tone Koh Cotton Scarf.

Our scarf came wrapped in a gray organza bag. When we opened it up and pulled out a beautifully nice, lightweight scarf - perfect for the fall weather and crisp, cool mornings coming soon. And right away, just by the feel of it, I was reminded of my trip to Thailand [many, many years ago], and the cotton pants that I brought home with me from that trip.

We absolutely love the color and the fact that it's reversible, a 2-in-1 neutral color - it looks great with a black top, and has endless possibilities for other outfits. You can wear it showing only the light grey, or you can wear it showing just the darker grey color. Or, of course, you could sport both colors. We like it so much that we will probably visit this shop in the very near future to get one of the scarves from their Ombre Line. Next, though, we'll be choosing a scarf to add a pop of color to an outfit, so I have my eyes set on the blue, turquoise, or brown. Which one would you choose? And how would you wear your scarf? Take a look at six different ways to wear your scarf below:

Tomorrow will be October, and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Smiles by JEM has this PINK Beauty available:

Words for my Wednesday

At the end of yesterday's blog post, I included a story that really touched my heart. Didn't see the post? CLICK HERE.
Today's Words for my Wednesday are for anti-bullying. Spread the word. Please share this post!

"Not all forms of abuse leave bruises." ~ Danielle Steele

And this one is from a fellow blogger I "met" awhile back - an excellent author and illustrator who has inspired me with her words on more than one occasion.

"Now that you're aware of the problem, you cannot pretend you don't care.
To be concerned is to be human.
To act is to care."
~ Vashti Quiroz-Vega

Read Vashti's work, you won't be disappointed. Her stories are amazing. She is a goodreads author, and her illustrations are also amazing. Click her awesome superhero illustration below to read her take on bullying. You can also always visit her blog for some great reading!

The Cronut and Magic Souffle

If I ever visit New York City one day, I'll want to visit GMA at Times Square (love that show) and the Dominique Ansel Bakery (featured on GMA), home of the original Cronut and the new Magic Souffle. There would be other top destinations on my list for New York, of course, but these are two that are included. =0) I need to make a bucket list. I don't have one of those yet.

source

What is a Cronut? It's a croissant-donut hybrid. How cool is that?

I haven't tried a cronut, but doesn't it look yummy? I first saw the deliciousness on GMA, and on Friday, they showed another treat...The "magic souffle."

This Magic Souffle is a chocolate Grand Marnier souffle surrounded by an orange blossom brioche. Sounds like another something I want to try. Looks so tasty!

Another awesome thing I saw from last Friday's episode of GMA...
It's in no way related to the cronut or magic souffle, but it would be on my list of world problems that I wish I could solve. It has to do with bullying.

The two kids in the above picture are brother and sister. The brother wrote a letter to Santa, asking for a special gift for his sister.
Below is a clip of twins Amber and Ryan.
Bullying seriously needs to STOP.

Have you heard about this letter to Santa? If not, please watch the clip. It's a great story.
Sadly, bullying continues to be a problem. I was there was a way to get rid of it for good.
