Give them Smiles {Smiles for the People Product Review & GIVEAWAY}

Every year, Santa brings a brand new tooth brush to each of my kiddos in their stockings. Tooth brushes make great stocking stuffers, and it's always nice to give a reminder to be healthy, especially when there are so many holiday treats around. This year, I stumbled upon a great new company, and I just had to share it with you all.

I love a good company with a great purpose. I happened to find this company from Pinterest. The company re-pinned one of my pins, and I was curious when I saw the profile name, so I clicked and found Smiles for the People.

Smiles for the People has a One for One philosophy. (And if you're a regular reader, you know how much my family loves TOMS shoes for that same exact philosophy. It's the toothbrush version of TOMS!) When you buy one toothbrush, they donate the equivalent of one toothbrush to someone in need.

On top of the One for One, this company is also eco-friendly. Each brush handle is biodegradable and made with sustainable bamboo wood that is ergonomically designed and naturally antimicrobial. The bristles are soft, durable and recyclable in most areas (just pull out the bristles and recycle away!). After your bristles are pulled out and recycled, you can bury the handle in your backyard! (How fun is that for kiddos?) They also offer the option to send your brush back to them and get a discount on your next purchase. How is that for a win-win?

Here are the recycling steps from their website FAQs page:

The company's mission statement:
Our mission is to sell the highest quality and most environmentally responsible dental supplies while helping improve the oral health of people who can’t access or afford the dentist.

This is a brand new company, about to celebrate its one year birthday! Founded in February 2013 by 23-year-old Joe Brennan, Smiles for the People works with what they call Giving Partners to offer dental care to those in need. They have a three-indicator success model that I really like:
PEOPLE, PRODUCT, and PLANET. Does our product do the most good for the most people? Is it the best product on the market? Does our product protect the planet?

After finding them on Pinterest, I quickly liked their facebook page and followed them on twitter and Instagram. Can you tell? I'm a fan! These toothbrushes were going to be perfect stocking stuffers!

The brushes come in excellent packaging (yeah, you know me...If I love the packaging, I share it!). Every mailer has a double adhesive sticker, so you can reuse it AND it's biodegradable. Awesome, right? I love these mailers so much that I just might invest in some of them for our Etsy shop.

We received one each of the brand new color options, just launched in December. I called dibs on the Vibrant Violet (well, no one else got to choose, so I guess that's not fair). Oldest daughter got Blizzard Blue in her stocking and my oldest son received the Mint Green. Now if they just made these toothbrushes in kid-size...Well, if there's enough demand, then they'll start offering child-size. You have to submit the suggestion, and you can do so by contacting them HERE (I've already done it).

I had originally wanted to publish this post prior to Christmas, but because we had family staying with us, my computer time was very limited. These brushes were also Stocking Stuffers for my two older kids, and I wanted them to be a surprise as well.

So I'm ringing in the new year by sharing this awesome new company with you today in the first days of January 2014, and I'm hoping that you'll love it as much as I do.

Because their first birthday is quickly approaching (next month), I want to offer a giveaway for you - all of my lovely readers! The company is unaware that I'm posting this giveaway (they only know I am reviewing their product). I know they would sponsor it, but I'm all for the "One for One" philosophy, so this one's on me. It's an early Birthday Surprise for Joe and the crew at Smiles for the People!

Win a Smiles for the People toothbrush in your choice of color! Giveaway is open to US residents and ends on Sunday night, January 19th (1/19/14) at midnight, EST. To enter, please fill out the Rafflecopter form below, and remember to SMILE today and every day!

Good luck!

Disclosure: Smiles for the People sent me toothbrushes for the purposes of product review in this sponsored published post. All opinions are 100% my own. Giveaway is self-sponsored by 2justByou Blog. That is how much I like their product. Giveaway open to US residents, 18+ years of age. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law. Confirmed winner (chosen by Random.org) will be contacted via email and announced here on the blog in an announcement. Winner(s) will have at least 48 hours to claim prize. Hi Kim. I love the idea of this company and hope they do really well. We go to the Dominican Republic with Hope International for missions and give away hundreds, maybe even thousands of toothbrushes. I hope they are able to help many needy people around the world!

Hugs,
Heather

I like the whole concept of the toothbrushes. It helps teeth stay healthy while also helping others less fortunate. BUT- I also like that they use sustainable packaging for their toothbrushes & For shipping.

It is incredible to know that the company was started by such a young person! I'm not much older, and I cannot imagine having the know how to take a vision and turn it into such a wonderful program. If only there were more companies like this!

Love the idea of this company. Their goal is to work with a variety of Giving Partners who are providing dental care to those in need, advocating for increased access to dental care in their communities, training dentists and other care providers, and teaching people about the importance of proper dental hygiene.

"Some “One for One” companies give away one physical product for every one you buy, but to be most effective, we do it differently. Instead of giving away physical toothbrushes, our Giving Partners tell us exactly what they need." I love the sound of this company!

when you're done with the brush, pluck out the hairs of the brush and then bury it in the backyard, use it as a plant marker, or send it back to them and they will get rid of it so it can degrade!

This value is the cornerstone of our business. While Smiles for the People is legally structured much like a traditional company, our business model puts generosity at the center of all that we do. Every dollar we earn is invested in building a stronger, more generous company and enabling people to live healthier lives.
