Rain, Rain, Come our Way

It's winter time. Although, in California this year, we're setting record high-temperatures! We're badly in need of rain. Have you heard that California's Governor declared a drought emergency for the state? Read bout it HERE.

The photo above was one I found floating around on facebook. The bottom photo is the usual Folsom Lake of Sacramento, Ca. The top photo is what it's looking like lately...Not too great.

Rain, rain, come our way...We really can't wait another day.

There are water restrictions due to the drought. Hopefully, everyone is doing their part to conserve our precious water!

Here are some reminders for water conservation, no matter where you are:

* Turn the water off while brushing your teeth.
* Don't do the dishes until the sink is full.
* Don't do the laundry until you have a full load.
* It's OK to NOT water your lawn.
* Let's pass on the car wash, for now. Or, use a commercial car wash that recycles their water.
* Take a shorter shower. Use a timer and wash/rinse in five minutes or less (seriously, it can be done! Give it a try.).
* Collect water used when you rinse your fruits & veggies. Use this water to water your house plants.

What are some things that you do to save water?

I had heard something about a drought in CA but I didn't hear details. I don't know if I do much with conserving water but I try not to take long showers and I usually turn the water off when I brush my teeth.

Great tips. Delaware is freaking out because snow is supposed to start this afternoon ... we usually get rain instead. It's too bad I can't send you some of our excess.

Great tips to save water. It takes a bit of time before the water in my kitchen gets warm. So when I want to do the dishes, I use the cold water to water my plants :-)

Wow, I watch world news and didn't hear about this. I am going to L.A. at the end of Feb and weather doesn't sound great. I could do better when it comes to conserving water. I try to recycle and use environmentally safe products and I try to turn off the taps while I am brushing my teeth and soaping dish etc but I do like my long hot showers twice a day that I could probably cut down! I`ll try harder :)

These are great tips Kim! We always turn off the water when brushing our teeth. We also have a water conserving shower head. And we just try to be as mindful as possible about things like filling up the washing machine and dishwasher completely before running cycles.

I like the idea of not watering lawns, but there is a stupid rule where I live, stating that if your lawn is dying, or not trimmed to a certain length, the city will ticket you.

I found my way here from Shane's blog. I'm actually jealous of your record highs because we're hitting record lows in Ohio!

I hope you get rain soon! Adding to your waiting to wash until full tips, wait to run the dishwasher until it's full, and scrape your dishes instead of rinsing them.

Haven't heard anything about this, and can't believe it. What a contrast to weather in the northeast! We're covered in snow here and "enjoying" single digit temps. Hoping you guys get rain your way soon!

Stopping by from Shane's blog & wow, I guess I shouldn't be complaining about all the snow we are getting, because it's precipitation at least :)

I love this post, especially since the dramatic climate change!
