Day at the County Fair

The County Fair is always here over the Memorial Day Weekend. We hadn't been there in a few years, so this year, we spontaneously decided to go on Sunday. But we had to go early, right when they open the gates, because I knew the heat and sunny day would be aggravating the eczema.

A really fun exhibit of Vintage America, with the RV-ing theme.

We arrived when a line of cars was just starting to form for the parking lot. Parking was super easy to find, and we even got next to a shade tree! It was just a short walk to the entrance gate, and we only had to wait in line to purchase tickets for less than two minutes. Kids get in free, so we only had to pay for adults (admission was $5).

Once inside, it was super quiet! It was almost like we were the only people there. All the Midway employees were still getting rides set up (I think the carnivals rides open an hour or two later), the food vendors were just starting to prepare (you could smell the BBQs getting fired up), and you could walk without bumping into anyone. It was really pretty nice!

We didn't go for the carnival rides, as much as the kiddos like them. We went for something fun and different to do over the holiday weekend. I didn't want to spend too much money, so we went for all the free fun at the fair - the exhibits, the animals, the shows, and whatever else we could fit in before the heat came.

Gardening and planting seeds was the theme of this exhibit. All of these decorated wheel barrows were made (and plants grown) by local elementary students.

A giant chess board! There was a couple playing the game.

Baby Girl had fun with the Giant Connect Four game for a little bit.

And then the real fun came with the giant bubbles.

In hindsight, we really should have left the indoor exhibits and fun for later in the day when it was hotter outside (I'll have to remember that for next time). But after the fun stuff indoors, we headed outside. By this time, there were more people roaming around too.

Baby Girl got a chance to visit the Petting Zoo!

These baby goats were adorable!

We called this one Bambi.

It was a pretty fun day. We lasted until just after lunch. I had packed us sandwiches with waters and gatorade. After our picnic, we watched a couple of shows (a circus show and a cultural dance show) and then headed home.

What did you do over the holiday weekend?

Looks like the perfect way to spend a day this last weekend! The Texas state fair is always here in the fall and I was just telling my husband over the weekend that we needed to go this year since we hadn't been for several years. I think, now that I've read this post, it is a must! :)

Wow, what a great fair. You've gotten some great photos! My memorial weekend was more of planting and yard work but it was great to be outside.

It looks like you had a fun day! Most of our fairs are in the fall here in New England. They're a lot of fun. And there's always fun food to eat. Glad you all had fun. :-)

Looks like such a fun time! I love going to county fairs. I spend the weekend in Indianapolis with my sister. The weather was perfect! I wish it wasn't over - three day weekends go by so quickly.

Looks like a great time! I prefer going in the morning to our county fairs too -before the suns all the way up and the blacktops hot and shoulder to shoulder with crowds of people. It's more relaxing and fun. Those giant games look awesome, the kids must have had a blast.
