Purple Ombre Hair

By now we probably all know that as far as colors go, I love all shades of blue. But purple is a really close second favorite for me - almost all shades. So when my oldest daughter asked to get her hair done in purple ombre, I said, "Cool. Let's do it."

We made an attempt months ago, and it didn't turn out so well. We tried to do it ourselves, at home, and the result was a really light lavender. Not the deep purple she had wanted. The color also disappeared within just a few days, tops. It was a big disappointment for both of us. (I guess it's a good thing doing hair is not my day job.)

She's had ombre hair before (a nice shade of red), and that was her first time ever messing with her "virgin hair." Since then, we've only made the one attempt that was an epic fail (on my part, but at least I tried). She lived with the fail for months, but her Senior Portraits are later on this afternoon. So we did it. We splurged, and I took her to the hair salon yesterday (and it was a bit of a surprise for her). She got a badly needed trim, and the hair dresser re-bleached her hair and did the ombre.

This is how it turned out:

Under the Shade Tree

In Full Sun Light

The hair dresser also styled it with big, loose curls. Of all the times I've curled hair, I've never been able to get these kind of curls! Do you know how to do it? Got a video tutorial I could watch? Just point me in the direction, and I'll try it out!

Wish us luck at the session for her Senior Portraits. The reality of her actually being a high school senior will probably kick in for me tomorrow - and in high gear...I hope I don't cry...

So what do you think? Do you like the purple ombre hair?

Her hair turned out great!
I put my hair up in a sock bun and leave it in overnight. The next day I remove the sock and gently finger comb the hair to get big loose waves :)

You are such an awesome mom for taking her to get it done! It looks absolutely beautiful. If you decide to try bright colors at home again, I totally recommend Splat. They carry it at Walgreens and Wal-mart for $10 and it comes with the bleach and the dye. Although it cuts out the crazy mess going to a salon to do it!

Two thumbs up! I once dyed my hair in a very dark shade of blue. I might need to do that again :-)

Oh wow, this looks great! You officially earn coolest mom award right now :) I wanted blue streaks in my hair when I was a teen and my mom absolutely wouldn't let me! This turned out so pretty and her curls look gorgeous :)

I always wanted to do something like this to my hair but it just wouldn't fly with the work industry I will be in. It turned out really nice! For ombre hair, I think blue and purple are my fave colors!

As someone who has had just about every color in her hair in the past, this hair takes the cake! I wanted to get an ombre red to blonde for the summer but didn't want to deal with the work it involved, so I just got normal highlights and one red streak in the back of my hair to show when my hair is up... maybe I'll wait for fall and do shades of purple instead!

Awesome hair! I always daydreamed of having a fun color like that because of the 80's Jem cartoon, but bleach freaks me out.

Gorgeous! I've always wanted to do something crazy with my hair like this but I never felt brave enough to do so! Maybe one day!
