Keep Your Home Safe {& Ad Space Giveaway}

The holidays are a great time for most everyone, but it's also a time when we might want to let our guards down when we shouldn't. It's unfortunate, but theft crimes increase during the holiday months.

We live in a neighborhood with community mailboxes, and last year someone went around breaking into the boxes. At least two community boxes were vandalized and broken into. They were fixed fairly quickly by the postal service, but some people lost their mail (and maybe their packages). And now we aren't able to leave our outgoing mail in the community box. It's covered with a steel plate. =0(

A couple of years ago, our neighbor right across the street had a big flat screen TV delivered, and it was stolen right off of his front porch! That's crazy, right? But sadly, it happens. And it was in the middle of the day too.

Anyway, my point is this: Just because there's so much holiday cheer, don't forget to keep safe. Someone from Iron Security kindly sent me an infographic the other day. These holiday safety tips are really great, so I wanted to post it here on the blog.

Great tips for staying safe during the holidays! My favorite holiday memory as a child was staying up late and watching it snow when we still lived in Canada!

Great safety tips. Thank you.
My childhood Christmases blur together. I don't have a favourite, but time with all the family was a treat.

Thanks for sharing these safety tips... it's always so sad to hear of bad things happening during the holidays... especially if they could have been prevented. My favourite childhood holiday memory was the year my dad dressed up as Santa for a party at our home. I was just old enough to know it was him but my younger brothers and most of the other kids didn't. It was fun keeping it secret from them.

One year my mom had to go back to Taiwan, when I was in the 5th grade, and while I missed her, I got to spend the holidays at our family friend's place. We had lots of fun running around, and opening up presents.

Great tips! It is a shame that there are thieves out there harming the holidays for some people.

My favorite memory was coming home after a Christmas Eve party each year just to find that Santa already arrived! We went to church with my mom on Xmas Eve and my dad (the athiest) would stay home and set up the gifts. We would swing by and pick him up before going to the party. It took me years to figure that one out!

I agree 100% with all of these things! Even not around the holiday's I always make sure to post about my family's outings at least a couple days later, so it doesn't let any one know where I currently am! my favorite memory from my childhood was the Pajama Elf. Every christmas eve we would magically have new Chrstmas Pj's appear on our bed left by the Pajama elf who had terrible writing. (My mom wrote on the tags with her right hand! ) So much fun and something we're planning on doing for our kids!

Thanks for sharing these tips, unfortunately, in Nigeria,they have gone beyond just stealing to kidnapping. Sad!
Funny about my favourite childhood memory of Christmas, was thinking of writing a post about how Christmas has gotten so boring as an adult. As a child in Nigeria, I didn't really get to hear about Santa claus until I was almost in secondary school, however, I can assure you that I had the greatest times. From the shopping which usually started in November, to the anticipation of putting on your new clothes and shoes on Christmas day, (because my mum usually hid them till Christmas eve when they are brought out for ironing). Then travelling to the village to see grandparents and cousins who lived in other parts of the country. The village was extremely fun,because them you could be left to your devices without fear of being kidnapped (everyone knew each other) or being rundown by a car (cause there was so few of them too). The eves of Christmas and New year was always spectacular cause we all used to come together as one huge family to play and throw "knock-outs" everywhere. I had so much fun!

These are great tips! We had some people in our neighborhood who caught their house on fire by deep frying a turkey in their garage. It was not good. So that is a great tip!

Great tips! There have been some car vandalism in our neighborhood, so we've been leaving the lights on inside and out.

My favorite memory would be being woken up in the middle of the night to hear bells. Probably something downstairs falling off the tree, but I was so excited! :)

I know it may seem trivial to say opening gifts as a child, but it wasn't just the gifts that made it special. We each watched each other open them and that was half the fun.
