Burlap Love {Busy Bee Burlap: Product Review & GIVEAWAY}

Spring & summer are the seasons of weddings, right? Beautiful, sunny, absolutely gorgeous weddings. A good friend of mine was married during this time, and I was excited to be able to receive a personalized burlap print from Busy Bee Burlap, a new Etsy shop offering custom prints for all occasions. Fall weddings are just as magical, with the changing colors and many possibilities, and a burlap print would make a great gift.

I love the look of burlap for home decor. I love it even more when you can personalize it. What's really awesome about Busy Bee Burlap is that it's all 100% Risk Free, guaranteed! You get a beautiful, affordable, top-quality burlap print made just for you and superior customer service. They are absolutely delightful to work with. Plus, they offer complete satisfaction with a risk-free guarantee.

Let me tell you about the process really quickly:
* I told owner Mike that I was looking for a wedding gift, so he pointed me in the direction of some really great couples prints available.
* I chose the print I wanted, and gave him the names and year for customization.
* He responded with a three possible designs, different fonts. I chose which font I wanted, and the Busy Bee got busy!
* I received the print super fast. And it came out to be the PERFECT WEDDING GIFT!

The print comes with detailed directions for the best way to frame it. I quickly went to the nearest Joanne as soon as I could to choose a frame for it and make it gift-giving-ready. Here's the result:

I chose a wood frame with a rustic tint, which matched the burlap perfectly. The picture doesn't do it any justice at all. I was short on time, and the lighting wasn't great, but I hope you can tell how beautiful this print is framed.

These beautiful burlap prints make great engagement, wedding, anniversary, and housewarming presents. The newlywed couple I gave the print to loves it!!!

Now let's get to the fun Q&A session I had with Busy Bee Burlap owner Mike!

How did you choose your shop name?
I wish I had a great story to share, but it is really quite simple. One night, Michelle and I were creating several designs to put on Etsy. It was late and we still had a lot of work ahead of us. She made a comment about us being “busy as bees”. The name “Busy Bee Burlap” immediately came to mind. I did some quick research to make sure it was available. It was, and that’s how we got our name.

What inspires your designs? What made you want to work with burlap?
We get our inspiration from many sources: our favorite Bible verses, suggestions from family, friends, and customers, and sites like Pinterest. If we see a design we like on another medium (such as wood signs), we change something about it to give the design our own unique touch.

Our work with burlap began as home DIY project. We wanted a framed “Family Established” print in burlap. After looking at several designs, Mike decided to make our own. After several attempts, he figured it out. Several friends and family members saw our print and said they’d like to have one of their own. We eventually decided to expand the number of designs and make them available on Etsy.

Do you offer a variety of sizes for your prints? How about custom colors?
We currently offer the prints in 8-1/2” x 11”, though we’ve received several requests for larger prints. We’re looking into the possibility of offering larger prints in the near future.

We’ve tried many color options – both burlap and ink. We’ve found that black ink on natural burlap works best. We do have a few designs that include color in small amounts, and we’re open to working with customers to create a custom design or to use different colors where it will work.

As summer comes winding down to an end, describe your idea of a perfect summer date night (his & hers answers).
Mike: With 3 kids ranging in age from 8 to 16, any date night we get is pretty awesome! My idea of a perfect summer date night is going out for a nice dinner, and then hanging out and talking with Michelle for a few hours in a coffee house, or checking out the local music scene (we’re in Nashville, after all). We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary earlier this year, so my idea of a perfect summer date night is much different now than it was 20 years ago!

Michelle: My idea of a perfect summer date night would actually be during the day. I’d spend the entire day with Mike just visiting flea markets, antique stores and estate sales. I know…very exciting, right? We both really enjoy digging and searching for unique items at these sales – especially wood furniture that we can restore or repurpose. I’d finish the day with a nice dinner and dessert.

Appreciate Everything {Words for my Wednesday}

I've always been one who is pretty big on appreciation. There are a lot of things we take for granted every day. As we start saying goodbye to summer (I'm not really ready, but it's being forced upon me!), I look forward to fall and that it brings with it great change: Changing weather, changing leaves that are always so pretty (but a mess to clean up), and a perfect time for gratitude and reflection. Just as spring is the time for new beginnings, fall is a time to let things go and shed the brittle leaves to make way for new ones to come - on the trees and in our lives.

This post might seem a little premature to many of you, I know. Thanksgiving is not here yet. Halloween isn't even here yet. But you may or may not know that there was an earthquake over this past weekend in the Northern California Napa Valley. That's really close to home for me. Not many people were injured, but there were some homes completely lost due to fires in the aftermath. I watched one of the couples on the news, and the wife completely broke down on camera, as if it had actually just hit her during the interview and talking about it that she had lost her home and everything in it. It was heartbreaking.

I just want to focus on the realization that anything can be lost at any given moment, and we must appreciate everything that we have in life. Many of us don't realize all that we have until it's gone. I don't want that to happen to me.

I love this next quote. Absolutely love it. It's just so true.

So remember that every day is a great day for gratitude. A little appreciation can really go a long way.

What are you appreciating today?

Such a Busy Life Lately

It's been such a busy life lately. School starting and all the back-to-school paperwork and events; it kind of makes my head swirl a little bit. I'm getting dizzy just thinking about it!

I thought I'd share just a few Instagram posts with you on this fabulous Friday. A quick update, because I still haven't gotten fully back into the blogging groove yet. And I try to keep updated with my instagram and twitter accounts, even if I'm not always in the blogging scene completely.

So here we go...

Late last week, just as the older kids were starting school, Baby Girl got sick and had to have two breathing treatments at her doctor's appointment. She calls the mask her Ninja Turtle Mask. We were sent home with a nebulizer and more medication. But after a few more treatments and lots of rest, she was up and around like nothing even phased her.

On the way to the doc's office, she was having such a hard time breathing and was so sad in the car. But then this song came on, and she tried to sing along, even with all her wheezing. Music really is healing sometimes.

We also painted her nails and toenails her favorite color later when she was feeling better. Yep, it's that bright pink that you see pictured up there. But this particular polish is color-changing. It changes to purple in the sunlight.

Our minivan went into the shop this week for a couple of days. We had to get some warranty work done before we hit the magic number of 100k miles! We made it just in time.

Spicy Fried Rice is one of the kids' favorites, and we hadn't had it in a really long time. So I made some on the day that I attended Senior Parent Info Night, where I learned all about how I'll be paying for the many senior events scheduled throughout the school year...At least they offer a payment plan!

And the last IG snippet shown up there is a fabulous piece of yellow wall art that I admired since I first saw it midweek. I really want to hang one of those on my wall now. I just love the message. You know me, I'm always up for some inspiration. ;)

I'm glad it's Friday. Fridays are just always good days, for the most part. I look forward to a weekend of relaxation and unplugging from cyberworld again, because I'll be going through bags and bags of things for a yard sale and/or donation pick up. And there's A LOT to go through. Piles in my living room and the master bedroom. Seriously. It's like Spring Cleaning all over again. =0)

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Darkest Days {Words for my Wednesday}

Sometimes when you think things can't get any worse, they do. It happens.
When it rains it pours, right? Yeah, it really does.
There are always clear skies after the storm, but seeing that far in advance isn't always what you want to do when you're living in the moment, listening to the rain.

DARKEST DAYS

Even in your darkest days,
There's always some light to shine.
A beam of motivation.
A glimmer of hope.
A spark of inspiration.
We all need those in times of darkness.

Light at the end of a tunnel,
No matter how long that tunnel is.
Sunshine on a cloudy day,
No matter how many clouds block the view.

Without the dark days,
We might not ever know how strong we are or can be.
And even in our darkest days,
We gain more strength to move on to something better.

Don't be afraid of the dark anymore.
You can find the light and own it.
Just a tiny bit of light can be brighter than any darkness.
Like a single rose among the many thorns.

Are you afraid of the dark?

Life's Moments {Words for my Wednesday}

The thing that we call life has so many moments. Some are good and some are bad. All of those moments are important. Moments are memories. Memories are not to be forgotten.

Cherish the moments, the good and the bad, because all of those moments make us who we are.

Bad moments are only bad for a little while. You can and will get through them, even though you might not think so. You will be stronger because of them. And you will enjoy the good moments even that much more after surviving them.

These are the Words for my Wednesday, my thoughts. Live for life's moments.

If you have thoughts, words, a saying or a quote to share, please do in a comment!

Summer Skies

I will seriously be missing the summer night time skies and sunsets.

With the kids going back to school much sooner rather than later, I thought I'd share some sunset shots from this summer with you. If you have any of your own to share, please leave the link in a comment. I'd love to check it out. I've been slightly obsessed with the summer skies this season.

A view from inside the car.

This picture doesn't do the pink sky any justice.

Sunset in SoCal

 This one I even used as my twitter cover photo for awhile. =0)
Awesome sunset collage (photo cred goes to my daughter, who created this).

This summer literally flew by me in what seems like an instant. The 2014 - 2015 school year is my oldest daughter's Senior Year, and it's going to be bittersweet. It actually already is for me. I'm excited for her to explore college options and graduate high school. At the same time, I'm terrified of having her go off to college and be the independent young woman I know she is - possibly many, many miles away from me! So this is what they mean when they say letting go isn't easy.

But as mothers, we have to learn to let our young ones spread their wings and fly on their own, discovering who they are, all that they are capable of, and finding the way to their dreams. All we can do is hope that we have taught them well and be supportive in every way.

Oh summer skies, how I miss you already! My last full summer with my daughter before she goes off to be a big girl in a big world...

What will you be missing most about the summer season?
If you're a 2justByou Blog Fan, you might have seen this question already, as I asked this question on this facebook post last week too as a sneak peek preview of what was to come. =0)

Keeping Tidy {Tidy Tote Product Review & GIVEAWAY}

Preparation makes life easier. And we all like life made easier, right? It's just the way it is.

Even though I don't have a small baby anymore, I still carry a bag full of essentials in the car, just in case. I have a potty-trained three-year-old, but accidents can happen. Plus, you never know when someone might get drenched in water from a water fight at the park or something (it is still summer, after all).

I usually keep plastic bags in the car for these types of occasions. So when I was contacted by Caroline of Tidy Tote, I was thrilled for the opportunity to try out their product. These totes are perfect for any family. You can use the Tidy Tote to keep wet and/or soiled clothes separate from the clean clothes in the diaper bag for the smaller children. And it's great for bigger kids too. You can slip dirty socks and shoes in a Tidy Tote after soccer practice to keep from getting the car dirty. Take one with you to the picnic at the park, the family BBQ, the beach, wherever!

We first took our Tidy Totes to the swimming pool, but they're also great for the beach. These totes are much more stylish than carrying plastic grocery bags with you everywhere, and they have a convenient drawstring closure. They are washable and reusable, not to mention the four super cute designs available (and more coming soon).

My daughter loves her butterfly tote, but sometimes she even uses big brother's train tote (because trains are just cool). She kept her flip flops in it before the pool, and she kept her dry clothes in it while she was swimming. After a full day of swimming and drying off just a little bit, she changed back into her clothes and put her damp suit in the Train Tidy Tote. She threw in her sunscreen, pulled the drawstring shut and was on her way.

Tidy Totes are great! I keep one in the car at all times, and one in our bag of essentials. They are so easy to rinse (the built-in liner makes clean up a breeze!) and wash (machine wash cold & tumble dry low) - much better than using the plastic grocery bags, which you would have to throw in the trash (or recycle, if it's not soiled). A Tidy Tote is seriously a diaper bag's best friend. Or a parent's best friend, even without the diaper bag. Being prepared and keeping tidy makes life easier!

I would even love to see more designs (some for older kids) and maybe even a larger size. Like I said before, these totes are great for the whole family. You can check out the website at TidyTote.com and see the other two designs currently offered.

Here's our quick Q & A Session:
What is the retail value? $15.99 each
When was the company founded? HalfDozen was founded in 2007
Are these only sold at the retailers mentioned on your website? Yes, our totes are only sold at the retailers on our website who also have an online presence.
Will there be more designs to choose from in the future? Yes :)
