Three Day Weekend {Valentine's Day & President's Day at the Park}

The President's Day Holiday means "No School" to the kids.

It's been a really long time since we've gone on a family picnic at the park. We used to do it all the time. Yesterday was such a gorgeous day, and we had nothing but sunshine. We decided at the last minute to make some sandwiches, pack them up, and head out to the park.

After eating at the picnic table, we took a walk around the pond. The weather was perfect. There were many families there doing the same thing we were, but it was quiet and nice.

Here are a few things that we saw on our little trip around the pond...

There's an island in the middle of the pond and a small bridge to cross to get to it. The island is nothing but a mound of dirt with some trees and a few other plants, but all the kids love it.

Ducks in the water!

There's a section in the park that has dedication trees in a specific area.
The trees were donated and planted near the playground.

These guys kept staring at us.

There were three bird's nests in this tree!

And how was your Valentine's Day?

We had a movie night with popcorn and pizza. We made a Valentine's Cake, chosen completely by Baby Girl, right down to the decorations for it (of course, there had to be sprinkles).

Yes, she wanted a Pink Camo Cake for Valentine's Day,
complete with Purple Frosting, white sprinkles, and XOXO candies.

Cake wouldn't be complete without some Birthday Cake Ice Cream.

Each slice of cake just had to have one "X" and one "O."

It was a pretty cute cake!

To make a pink camo cake, just make your favorite White Cake. Pour batter into three separate bowls. Use pink food coloring in two of the bowls, making one darker than the other, and leave one bowl with white batter. We kind of messed up, because our two pinks looked about the same (oops!).
Then, you pour the different batters into your cake pans at one at a time, little by little, rotating. So, you can pour 1/2 cup of the dark pink, then 1/2 cup of the lighter pink, 1/2 cup of white batter. Do this until you use all the cake batter. You don't need to make a pattern, just make sure to mix the colors a little bit, to create the camo look. Baby Girl went a little overboard on all the pink batter, so we didn't have quite enough white batter. Oh well.

We bought the purple frosting and the candies. Sometimes I find that the store-bought frosting just works better. But in this case, it had just the shade of purple that she wanted.

What did you do over the weekend?
If you had a 3-day weekend, how did you spend your Monday?

Wow, lovely scenery ... I am in the north east and spent much of the weekend indoors, hiding from the cold!

Sounds like you had a lovely weekend! :)
I worked on Saturday morning but had a nice dinner and dessert day with my housemate after and spent the rest of the weekend with family.

That looks like a very peaceful place to have a picnic. Your pictures are beautiful. I really like the colors of the cake! We have the whole week off school, but we have several appointments and are trying to catch up on stuff around the house.

I love the photos and the cake looks yummy! Our weekend was fairly quiet. I talk a little about a valentine brunch on my blog.
