Freshen Up: Letting Spring Into Your Home

Spring is here!

Picture it: The days are longer and brighter, lambs are skipping in the fields, and trees are bursting into bloom. It's a time of newness and freshness, so it's no wonder many people take spring as a time not only for cleaning the home, but for giving it a fresh, new look of its own.

If you've been snuggled in a winter weight comforter during the colder months, now is the time to switch up to a lighter covering. New bed linens in whites or spring floral shades is an inexpensive, effective way to freshen up the look of any bedroom, and new sheets feel great too. You can change the drapes for a lighter fabric to match, but remember that with more hours of daylight, you'll still want something to keep the sun out of the bedroom while you're sleeping.

If your bedroom furniture is looking a little drab you can buy some new items or, if you're not quite ready to throw it out yet, a fresh coat of paint can work wonders. While you're at it, repainting the window frames to match gives your home a more upbeat look and smartens it up, especially if the winter weather has cause the paintwork to crack or become chipped. Re-framing the pictures on your walls, or simply swapping them around, brings you a whole new perspective on beloved pieces. Encourage the kids to paint some spring scenes for framing and hanging up on the fridge.

In the kitchen, changing the liners in drawers and cupboards makes the room feel tidier. Throw out any chipped china and invest in a few different pieces in bright colors. Changing the table cloth or runner can transform the room’s whole appearance, as can new place mats and coasters. If you're a crafter, there are numerous ways you could make them yourself, including crochet and cross stitch. Coaster blanks can also be filled with family photos, pretty pictures, or dried flowers.

But the easiest, most inexpensive and quickest way to brighten up the house in spring? Bunches of cut flowers, either from your own garden or the market. They are plentiful this time of year, and different varieties bring endless variants of color and fragrance into your home.

So tell me, how do you welcome spring into your home?
I always try to get some spring cleaning done, and giving the home a new, fresh look always helps brighten the days inside when they days are nice, bright & sunny outside.

I'm loving all the flowers starting to pop up! I can't wait til my lilac bushes get bigger and I can open my windows and let the fresh smell in!

Great tips. We are just sneaking into Autumn here. Which I welcome.
I try and have flowers in the house all year round - to make up for my less than stellar house-keeping.

When it comes to spring... it's difficult since I live Down Under and our Spring jumps almost into Summer like the rest of the other seasons! LOL
But when I was living in Europe we were always bringing fresh flowers in the house and Spring Cleaning was a must. We also lighten up the rooms with brighter fabrics and white cloth.

I love to open the windows and let fresh air in. Then I switch out a few pillows or add flowers to the table. Love spring!

I need to do some MAJOR spring cleaning. Get some junk out of here and clear some huge spaces. That's a big way for me to let the change of the season help me feel good!

Nothing says spring to me more than a bouquet of tulips - and I love to have a vase of them in my kitchen!

Oh such a lovely rose photo! So far we've been letting spring in our homes via the doggies coming in with damp paws haha.
