On Getting a Day Job

I can't believe that the end of August is just about here. I really don't know where the time goes. Summer is almost over, and the kids have already started the new school year.

As many of you might know, I took the summer months off (for the most part) for all things online, only doing the bare minimum necessities. It was a refreshing break, but I really did miss the blogger life. I tried to stay up to date with most of you through Instagram and Twitter. But I still missed everything else online.

I've been slowly easing my way back into it (or at least trying), but starting this week, I have a whole new schedule to answer to...I got a day job. I just received the official news last week, and the deal was sealed on Friday when I went to sign all the new hire paperwork for the HR department.

After many months of job searching (since December/January), which is a job in and of itself, I finally got that job offer I had been waiting not-so-patiently for. And let me tell you...It's tough trying to get back in the workplace-game after being a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom for nearly 10 years! Really tough. I was seriously starting to give up hope completely. So this job offer came at just the perfect time.

I'll be working downtown, so that means I'll be sharing more street art and box art on Instagram! I'm pretty excited about that part. I don't really venture our around the downtown area, so it will be new territory for me. It also means I'll be dealing with traffic and parking (definitely not looking forward to that every day).

It's already a BIG change for both me and my kids. It's going to take us all some time to adjust and get used to a new schedule, a new way of doing things. But this is a change for the better, and it's what has been needed for us. I'm really thankful for the opportunity to work again.

With a new day job, though, I'm wondering how I'm going to juggle the blogger life and the working life. I get no cell service where I'm working, so that's going to make it difficult to check social media and everything else online. I'm thinking I might need to switch my service provider...
But beyond that, I'm brainstorming how I'm going to balance this new work life of mine. I'll definitely need to get on some kind of schedule for posting. I know that I'm not giving up blogging, especially not when I just started getting it back! Soooo...

Does anyone have a tip they'd like to share for working a day job, blogging, and balancing the two? Would anyone like to guest post for me on the topic?

Congratulations Kim! Very exciting! I'm sure it will be a struggle at first balancing everything but we humans adapt well and you may fall into a groove sooner than you think. :) When I was working full time I would just post once a week (still do). Then I could work on the post during the week and have it ready for publishing. I used to visit blogs on my lunch break at work. That was always a fun way to break up the day!

I am so happy that you found a day job. Wonderful, but exhausting, news.
Make sure you factor in some down time.

Now that I've started working, I usually only get a chance to post once a week - usually on the weekend.

First of all, congrats on your new job Kim! I use to work near downtown Sac and yes the traffic is horrible, good thing I didn't have to worry about parking though.

As for day job and blogging, I still work and blog full time but my job allows me to be on the internet all day so I use my time at my job to blog. But when I don't have time at work I use the weekend to write and schedule posts.

You can do it!!!!!

How exciting! I'm sure you'll balance the two just fine ... but don't let yourself get stressed if you don't get a blog post up as early as you wanted. We'll still be here to read it the day or three after as long as you still enjoy writing it.

I like scheduling my posts at least a week to 2 in advance, so that way I can simply just upload the post.

Congrats on the new job. I too was a SAHM for 15 years before going back to work full time. Besides that I also went back to school in the evenings. So I juggled taking care of 5 kids, full time job and school two nights a week. (Laundry and housecleaning somewhere in between) Somehow if you want to do it - you can. At that time there was no such thing as blogging...but now that my children are grown, I work full time, take care of grandkids, sell Avon and still find time to blog. I am a very big fan of scheduling blogs. In fact, I was out all day today with my son and his family, came home tonight and scheduled 4 blogs for the next few days...it can be done. Good luck
