California, Say "NO MORE!"

I've never been a fan of the personalized license plates, and I'm not really sure why. Well, OK, one reason is because there's just that extra fee to pay to the DMV (am I right???). But another reason was because I had no idea that personalized license plates could help support good causes.
There's a small list of what is called special interest license plates offered by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), which help fund different projects and programs state-wide. For example, there's a "Help our KIDS" plate that supports the Child Health and Safety Fund (which goes along well with my blog post from yesterday).
You don't have to personalize your plate number. You can opt for just the specialty background (the special interest plate) with a randomly issued number. Or, you can go the extra mile and personalize your plate number as well. It's up to you. Personalizing the plate number requires an extra fee in addition to the specialty plate fee. (I'm not such a huge fan of extra fees, but I guess I would consider it if I really had something perfect to personalize, which I currently do not.)

Anyway, today I have something pretty cool to share with you all. If you live in California, there's a new opportunity for you to do your part to help end domestic violence and sexual assault.

I recently received a flyer and wanted to share it with you.

Front of Flyer

The rest of the front side of the flyer includes these quick statistics and facts:

* 12.7 million people are physically abused, raped or stalked by their partners in one year.

* That's approximately the population of New York City & Los Angeles combined.

* That's 24 people every minute.

Below is what the back of the flyer reads:

In September 2014, governor Brown signed into law AB 2321 which authorized the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) to sponsor a specialized license plate to raise awareness for domestic violence and sexual assault in California.

Cal OES is proud to implement the "California Says NO MORE" license plate program, which will raise awareness and funding for domestic violence and sexual assault prevention programs in California.

Right now, we need your help! In order to make the "California Says NO MORE" license plate a reality, Cal OES must collect 7,500 pre-paid applications for this license plate. Please take a stand and say "NO MORE" to domestic violence and sexual assault by purchasing your plate today.

Go to www.NoMorePlate.org for more information and to purchase a plate.

Our partners for the "California Says NO MORE" license plate include:
NO MORE: Toghether We Can End Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault
California Partnership to End Domestic Violence
CALCASA: CA Coalition Against Sexual Assault
Cal OES: Governor's Office of Emergency Services

I wanted to share this flyer with you all - my friends. If you're a regular reader, you know how I am when it comes to spreading awareness and doing my part to share the #socialgood for important causes. Back in March, my family and I supported a California non-profit - Project Lead Kindly, which was in support of helping domestic violence survivors.
I hadn't known that specialty license plates support programs and projects like this. If I had known earlier, I so would have purchased a "Help our KIDS" plate a long time ago! And because this good cause is definitely one that I believe in helping, I am completely willing to pre-order a plate and help this specialty plate become a reality. Sure, there may be an extra fee, but if that fee is going towards something that makes a difference, it's totally worth it!

Do you like personalized license plates? What are your thoughts about the new hopeful addition to the list of CA specialty license plates? Would you support it?
I'd love to hear your thoughts!

What a great idea. Here in Oz, two women are murdered by their partners/ex partners each week. The damage done to the survivors and the children is incalculable.
Anything which helps stop this obscenity is a good thing.
