These common daily consumables can cause food hypersensitivity or food intolerance.

1. Dairy

Dairy products like milk, cheese, ice creams, etc have lactose in it. Lactose intolerance can be triggered at any point in one’s life. The decreased ability to digest lactose, a disaccharide generally present in milk and milk products is known as lactose intolerance. Some common symptoms are

  • Abdominal cramps
  • Bloating
  • Diarrhea
  • Gas
  • Nausea

The symptoms usually start after 30 minutes to 2 hours of consuming dairy products. Some easily available substitute for dairy products could be coconut milk yogurts, almond milk, soy sour cream etc.

2. Gluten intolerance

Intolerance to bread, which is a staple component of diet throughout the world, can be a debilitating issue. Gluten intolerance can be caused due to wheat, barley, rye. Symptoms for the same are

  • Bloating
  • Regular occurrence of diarrhea and constipation
  • Abdominal pain
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Skin problems like dermatitis herpetiformis
  • Poor absorption of iron
  • Inflammation of joints and joint pain

Adhere to a gluten-free diet. Processed foods like wheat pasta, wheat bread should be replaced by rice and corn-based products.

3. Caffeine


A surprising number of people are affected by caffeine intolerance. Caffeine is present in a number of beverages like tea, coffee, energy drinks, and colas. Caffeine sensitivity differs from person to person, for some people even a cup of coffee might trigger the symptoms, while others might be able to tolerate a comparatively high dose of caffeine.

4. Fructose

To overcome this impairing issue, foods like honey, table sugar, agave nectar, some selective fruits and vegetables, and processed foods with high fructose corn syrup should be avoided.

5. Eggs


With multitudes of benefits of eggs, one fails to notice the harm it might cause if one is intolerant to egg protein. Some people are specifically intolerant to the egg whites, which contains albumen.

Some effects of intolerance to eggs are

  • Excessive gas
  • Breathing difficulty
  • Heartburn
  • Stomach ache

Eggs and processed foods containing eggs should be omitted from the diet. Some foods which can replace the nutrient content of eggs are nuts, fish-based proteins, banana, and avocado.
